Default So It's Halfway Through 2011

Okay, so technically it's not June yet, but close enough! While I have been listening to a lot of stuff, it's been tougher this year because of time constraints because of work, and losing magiska took away a lot of my opportunities to just experiment. i'd love to see what everyone's year has been like so far.

I went through the 2011 stuff I have and this is a rough list of the albums i've been able to digest and the stuff I've just been turning to over and over again. No ranking order as of yet

    Arbouretum - The Gathering
    Battles - Glass Drop
    Bloody Knives - Disappear
    Boris - Attention Please
Brothertiger - Point of View EP
    Cave In - WHite Silence
Cold Cave - Cherish the Light Years
    Cut Copy - ZonoScope
    Cyclo. - id
    Dream Cop - Mango EP
Evil Madness - Super Great Love
Face To Face - Laugh Now, Laugh Later
    Frank Ocean - Nostalgia/Ultra
Pale Sketcher - Seventh Heaven EP
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
    Principe Valiente - Princepe Valiente
Fucked Up - David Comes To Life
    Jesu - Ascension
The Joy Formidable - The Big Roar
    Kimmo Pohjonen - Uniko
Kurt Vile - Smoke Ring For My Halo
Mogwai - Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will
    Moving Mountaains - Waves
    Naminé - Neon
Parts & Labor - Constant Future
    Rival Schools - Pedals
    Tune-Yards - whokill
TV On The Radio - Nine Types Of Light
The Weeknd - House Of Balloons
    White Lies - Rituals
    Yuck - Yuck

EDIT: wait, is it supposed to be "so we're halfway through..."? Fuck.

The King Of Limbs and James Blake's debut have changed my life.

This one's going to be tough.

But today was such a totally boring, slow day for the board. I'm glad at least we have something to talk about.

Yeah, schmotally, but I got to finally being able to listen to a ton of shit the past couple of days and got excited. The regular 2011 thread started getting slow, so i thought it might be nice to reflect on the year thus far

    1.Bon Iver-Bon Iver
2.Kurt Vile-Smoke Ring For My Halo
    3.Rene Hell-Terminal Symphony
    4.James Blake-James Blake

Those are the four that have really WOWed me this year. There are plenty of others I've enjoyed but not really absorbed as fully. I need to get more 2011 albums on vinyl and get to listening.

(And there's no way I could have absorbed the Fucked Up album yet)

I've been able to listen to 58 albums all the way through.

    Like A Lot

Elbow - Build a Rocket Boys!
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
Radiohead - The King of Limbs
    The Antlers - Burst Apart
    R.E.M. - Collapse Into Now
    Anna Calvi - Anna Calvi
    Bon Iver - Bon Iver
    Wye Oak - Civilian

    Dislike A Lot

Beady Eye - Different Gear, Still Speeding
    Rival Schools - Pedals
    Cut Copy - Zonoscope
Noah and the Whale - Last Night on Earth
Cold Cave - Cherish the Light Years
The Decemberists - The King Is Dead
    Amon Tobin - ISAM
    Bibio - Mind Bokeh
    James Blake - James Blake
Rene Hell - The Terminal Symphony

The Wild Beasts and TV on the Radio albums disappointed me. Beastie Boys' new album was better than I expected, but Raekwon edges it out as best hip-hop album I've heard so far. Jessica Lea Mayfield, Principe Valiente, and Maritime released albums that I liked, and I had never heard any of those artists before listening.

Yeah, well, I meant more because of the number of lists he's on (and the amount of general attention he gets). I listened once, when the album first leaked, and it didn't really due anything for me.

I'm glad it's not just me thinking it's been a weak year by and large. The things I've loved, I've absolutely LOVED, but everything else has been largely decent to mediocre.
