Default Couldn't the presale have waited?

The timing just seems incredibly inconvenient for those of us who not only just went to Coachella but who saved up for that particular Coachella with the assumption that, should everything not be a shitshow like 2010, one might be able to save up to try and go again in 2012 and start paying in January.

That, and only offering layaway now (when scalpers are most apt to take advantage of the sale) is particularly damaging in that case.
    Upcoming Shows:
    * The Flaming Lips perform The Soft Bulletin - Bimbo's 365 in SF on February 21st
    * Jeff Mangum - Fox Theater in Oakland on April 10th

Five Years of Coachella Glory: 2007 - 2011 (skipping 2012, maybe I'll be back in '13?)

Presale could have waited, but putting a ticket on layaway can only cost ~$50 or so? It's not that bad.

Seriously if you can't shell out $100 bucks this weekend, then you don't want it badly enough.

That's 5 handjobs @ $20/20 minutes each to obtain your goal. Its Tuesday, you have PLENTY OF TIME.

What if I don't like the lineup in January and want to return my ticket.

Glastonbury charges only $50 for this.

If you've have to forfeit the ticket at 50% GV could run afoul of better business laws. Or fans could skip several payments and still be legally entitled to the ticket if they pay up within a certain time period and not be dinged.

AFAIK, there are no "better business laws" that would prevent a purchaser from losing his/her money should he/she decide to back out of a contract. There is a Better Business Bureau, however that's a privately run enterprise and "running afoul" only means they won't be BBB accredited, which means absolutely dick for a company like GV/AEG.

Also, if fans miss payments, they could be dinged depending on the agreement/contract you sign for layaway. You could theoretically miss one payment and forfeit your ticket. The amount they are entitled to keep however may be subject to state laws.

In March we double checked this when GV charged the card on March 1st rather than March 4th they wrote in the layaway fine print for those that bought first day. After pointed out "fraud" on their end they waived our UPS shipping - we also found that for installment on credit cards GV has the legally try for a month or two to allow financing with the buyer. The US has very strict credit card laws protecting consumers.

My point is that I don't like having to be on the hook for most of the weekend pass without seeing a lineup. And there's no assurance either weekend will sell out meaning resale value would be compromised.

Why is GV not offering an escape clause?

I do not think GV would ever break the law. they could afford brilliant attorneys, since GV is part of AEG.

yeah if they were asking for the full price I would say this is way to early for a presale BUT you just need a downpayment and then a payment every mth for 8 mths. If anything it forces you to save for coachella instead of waiting until the last second to get the funds.

The question is which weekend (or do you go to both)?

For those that work knowing 11 mths in advance helps (ie get vaca time squared away).

Really I would guess the only people getting screwed would be college students. They have no way of knowing which weekend will be better for them. Granted college students do make up a decent percentage of the crowd. But still they can just find a way to turn thier assigments in early or take the test earlier or go to lab on a different day or go to clinical on a different day or whatever to make it work.

This year my last day of classes was May 2. I don't know if going to Coachella 1 will fair better in terms of me getting stuff out of the way and being prepared for finals. I feel like Coachella 2 will be easier for me but I want to go to 1

Current job expires after labor day, at $8.25/hr and no more than 35 hours a week, so I'm going to be busy trying to land something beyond August all summer and not able to really throw anything into this.

I mean, if it boils down to whether or not I have 350$ lying around come January, then that's just how it's going to be.
