OK, the more I think about it there is no way that GV will allow the headliners/rarest/largest/Sahara headliner acts to only do one weekend. Can you imagine the backlash that would happen if everybody buys layaway and then The Knife is only performing the second weekend? Or if headliners are Lady Gaga one weekend and Radiohead the next? They might even forgo a big act if they demand to only do one weekend.

That might really suck too. I mean, is there a potential that we won't see as many rare acts now that they will have to commit to both weekends?

This is awful and I'm some noob that went one year in 09. The stories of The Cure playing even after the power cut off, GONE. I mean you really want to see Arcade Fire drops those balls, without the surprise of it? Rarity was the difference between Coachella and other American Festivals, for me. Can't wait for thread pages debating if performance A was better than B. I hope this works out, but I'm sitting back and waiting for the line ups. Carboncopychella!

Ugh, this is a nightmare. Yeah it's a bit of a financial strain, but that's not really why I'm complaining. It's moreso that there's a possibility that I may not be able to go with my friends because they can't get their shit together and one weekend sells out. I was pretty ambivalent at first but the more and more I go over it in my head, this just seems like a shitty decision.

i actually dig this for one reason and one reason only....

i now can work Coachella... i have a few friends now that have been in w/ GV for a couple years and have been asked numerous times to volunteer. I can go to one and work the other....

aside from that, very excited about buying my tix friday. Just have to see which weekend the D.E. decides on.

i highly doubt you'll be able to do that,my bro has been working for GV for years and when you work coachella you just can't do that..good luck trying though!

Why wouldn't that come back the last weekend of April? Having the same eight artists headline over and over hasn't derailed that festival yet. Why would they stop?

Well, after thinking about this...

6. The "specialness" of Coachella has and always will be defined (at least in part) with whom you share the festival experience. I will go with an awesome group of people and have an amazing time, even if another round is being held the following weekend. Who cares? Enjoy yourself.

It seems like they will have a lot more money to book better bands now. All the costs of moving art and stages and booths in and out are the same as previous years while the tickets sold will potentially double. More simply the cost of maintaining the festival for three more days is much less than planning an entirely different festival, yet the ticket prices are the same. So hopefully there is a little scratch to kick around.

theres always the cost analysis of a rare overseas headliner. If anything I think this woulda helped the Pulps of the world get a Coachella date. They could have done las vegas-los angeles-vancouver with two coachella dates mixed in and made a pretty good payday!
