Default Coachella Message Board Top Albums of 2013

Post your top 25 albums of the year in this thread. Number your albums in order from 1-25.

Your #1 album will be equal to 25 points.
Your #2 album will be equal to 24 points.
    .
    .
    .
Your #25 album will be equal to 1 point.
    Make sense?

If you want to just post a top 10, or a list less than 25, that's okay. Your #1 album will still count for 25 points and so on and so forth.

I will tally everybody's lists together and post OUR collective Coachella Message Board Top 50 albums of 2013.

Lists will be due by Thursday, December 26th at 11:59PM PST. If you post and want to edit your lists at all, that's fine, but PLEASE ALERT ME WHEN YOU EDIT YOUR LIST.

All are encouraged to post. The more the merrier.

    Happy Holidays.

I think you'd probably like The Ocean, the new Deerhunter, The Men, Kurt Vile and In Solitude. You should also give William Tyler and Factory Floor a chance. Both really good, a bit out of your wheel house, but killer albums.

I decided today that I'm not that impressed with the Factory Floor. I've listened to it several times and it refuses to stick. I think they've got something good going on, their tracks are deceptively simple and amateurish at first and develop into something more enthralling over time, but I still feel like a major component is missing, and with so much good dance music being made, this is more of a promising debut than a standout for the year. Also, just about all of the major tracks on this album are very slight variations on the same basic sound and structure. I can see why it's resonating with people and wouldn't discourage anyone from checking it out, but I can't help but feeling like I want to like it more than I actually do like it. I think that Tutti Carter Void release from last year is a lot more fascinating. I look forward to seeing how they progress.

I fell in love with their sound when researching ATP 2011, and then seeing them there cemented it for me. They've got a style and they work within it the whole album, but it's a style that thrills me.

Damn, guys. Super impressed with these lists so far. It seems like in years past a lot of the lists from this board have been the same 25 albums but in different order depending on personal taste...and maybe it's a testament to the weak "indie" year it's been that has forced people to search outside the box a bit, but regardless it's great seeing so much variety on this year's lists.
12/22 - Beachwood Sparks, et al - Echoplex
    12/30 - Together Pangea - Echo
    1/10 - Flesh Eaters - Echoplex (?)
    1/20 - Guster - HOB Anaheim (?)
    1/29 - Patti Smith - Ace (?)

I personally felt bombarded with amazing releases this year therefore I am going with the albums that I gave a first listen and just grabbed me right out the gate and didn't let go

"Fuck Machine" EP out next month with several remixes, including Combichrist and KMFDM. That song and "The Logical Song" remake are just plain sublime and MSI at their absolute best.

Also, just about all of the major tracks on this album are very slight variations on the same basic sound and structure. I can see why it's resonating with people and wouldn't discourage anyone from checking it out, but I can't help but feeling like I want to like it more than I actually do like it.
I'm actually right there with you. It's dropped in my rankings quite a bit.

That's how I felt about the Factory Floor album after 2 listens through, but I can understand why people that merely dip their toes in the dance music water are quite enamored with. And to that end, I recommend to you folks Axel Boman's Family Vacation and Daniel Avery's Drone Logic. Hopefully I'll have my list compiled by the deadline.

    12/31: Derek Plaslaiko, Dave Aju @ f8
    1/8: Tamaryn @ The Chapel
1/28: Beacon @ The Rickshaw Stop
1/29: Ty Segall, Wand, Cold Beat @ GAMH
2/7: Robag Whrume, Daniel Bell, Sassmouth, The Black Madonna @ Public Works
2/14: Sparks @ Ace Theater Hollywood

Your recommendation in the "2013 albums" thread led to one of my favorite electronic albums of the year, and #10 overall. Very much appreciated.

I'm glad to see Portal ascending on a few of our lists. That album is just astounding.

The debut album doesn't totally capture their live energy and I ranked it higher than most publications would, but those stripped down beats just feel so damn refreshing to me for some reason. Then again I'm also a sucker for translucent yellow vinyl records and sharp stylish packaging so what the fuck do I know.

For me the issue isn't so much the style they work within, but rather the fact that many of the tracks just don't develop as fully as perhaps they could. That was my biggest problem with this album, anyways - it starts well enough, but with each listen it really just faded into the background as it went on.
