Thread: More 90's Bands for 2012!

  1. #1

Default More 90's Bands for 2012!

I feel like there should always be at least 1 or 2 awesome acts from the 90's or late 80's that play each day. I loved 2011 but I just felt like it was missing this element. I can't believe bands like The Melvins, Afghan Whigs, Screaming Trees, Mudhoney and the Butthole Surfers haven't played at Coachella at all. I also wish Sonic Youth would play again, they always put on a great show.

Neither has Dinosaur Jr. Guided by Voices can also play.

Yeah, whats up with that? It seems like Dinosaur Jr is a perfect band to play Coachella...I can't see him costing much money to book either.

i saw Veruca Salt a year or so ago in vegas, fun show, but they're better in a club environment than on the polo

Alanis or Bloodhound Gang would be awesome though..

Saw Bloodhound Gang some time back at the Marquee Theater. They put on a hell of a show, but it was the most disgusting show I've ever attended (after I've seen GWAR 4 times, BH still takes the cake).

I was near the front, and it was bad news. Evil Jared did some Jager bongs on stage, and proceeded to puke shortly thereafter. Aaaand I was close enough to smell it. Awesome.

As if that wasn't enough, at one point in the show, Evil Jared punched Jimmy Pop in the arm, JPop tried punching him back, and then they got into a spitting contest. Since JPop was getting drenched, he took it upon himself to request the crowd to start spitting at Evil Jared. The man had loogies hanging from all over his body, dangling from his eyebrows and facial hair.

I figured that this was enough for me, so I decided to get to the back of the crowd, but the damage had been done.

But I'd love to see them again!

I don't see them booking Phish unless they literally can't find anyone else. Not that there's anything wrong with Phish (there is), it's just not a Coachella band, and they'd have to headline. Oh no I started a "could they headline" discussion. Please ignore me.

    Four Tet
    Coachella 4/20-4/22

I 100% agree. Sure, I like Phish, but do I think they'll every play coachella? no. They were one of the few credible bands of the 90's I could think of that I personally would see, if they were they to play coachella.

Not to mention they already did the whole Polo Grounds thing themselves....

However, I fully support this 90's movement! They need to at least bring Sonic Youth back, if nothing else. Headlining the Outdoor would be just perfect.

And if Ian Mackaye ever decides to change his mind on corporate events, then get Fugazi back together! One can dream......
The Replacements - OutKast - The Knife - HAIM - Bonobo - Afghan Whigs - The Glitch Mob - The Cult - Shlohmo - Waxahatchee - Wye Oak

Queens of the Stone Age - Pharrell Williams - Pet Shop Boys - Empire of the Sun - Fatboy Slim - Nas - Kid Cudi - Warpaint - Mogwai - Foxygen - The Dismemberment Plan - Blood Orange

Arcade Fire - Beck - Neutral Milk Hotel - Disclosure - Motorhead - Duck Sauce - Little Dragon - Toy Dolls - Fishbone - Superchunk - Daughter - Surfer Blood

Didn't they headline the Outdoor theater in 07?

Edit: Nope, they played right before DJ Shadow. I still think they could do it though.

If Coachella books GVB, I think we should be allowed to bring coolers of beer into the festival.

    +1 !!!

Can't imagine Phish as their sets are much longer than any Coachella set permits.

Phish played for 2 nights at the Polo Fields a few Halloweens ago...the festival was HUGE.
