Ugh. I feel bad for the bands and all -- but as someone who lives within the SJ boundaries, I fucking HATE this sad excuse for a festival. I can't leave my house with my car during the whole weekend, let alone even walk on my street without being accused of trying to "trespass" into the festival.

Beer bottles on my lawn, garbage all on my car/down the street (never cleaned up by SJ BTW) -- and you'd think they'd offer free admission last year to the residents inconvenienced by this asshattery? Nope. Nothing. Not even an apology when I complained about being harassed by SJ security. If I want to walk where I do every day FOR FREE, I'd have to pay $50 for the weekend. Fucking lame.

SJ has been a nasty lot of neighbors for a few years now (my neighbors who have lived in the area longer than me hate it even more than I do). Silver Lake jubilee were much more pleasant neighbors and were really concerned with the residents -- shitty lineup or not, I appreciated their festival much more.

every person i know that lives over there FUCKING HATES the festival with a passion too. Same thing as you Kat. It's not handled well at all. This situation just solidifies how little they have their shit together.

I know festivals take a tremendous amount of work that the average consumer doesn't see so I mean no disrespect by my following questions, I'm more so interested.

How does one announce an event and put tickets on sales prior to getting permits? Are they just assuming they got it like that?

Also how does one announce an international artist on their festival and sign a contract prior to them getting a work visa that has the possibility of getting denied?

Great, just move the show to Universal Amphitheatre or Irvine Meadows then and quit bothering the neighbors.

How would they get a work visa without a firm job offer to show that they are going to be working? That's how you have to do it.

I just tried to get my money back at Origami Vinyl, where I bought my tickets and he said "We haven't heard yet how the refunds will be handled, by the store, Junction. Come back later." I took two buses and a red line subway from the valley to not even get my refund yet.

I figure an event is cancelled, I have my paper tickets in hand, I get a refund. Not rocket science. However, I am sure I will get a refund, just a little bit delayed. The dude at Origami Vinyl was nice. I hate why politicians have to kill the festival. I thought Councilman Eric Garcetti supported the arts, he has in the past. I am mad at the city for killing the festival this year, not the dude at Origami.

Also, I hope Art Brut plays somewhere else in L.A>, that was my main highlight for the SJ Fest.

Right, it's all the City Council's fault - the festival organizers did absolutely nothing wrong, and it's just a bunch of asshole politicians who hate the arts and want to ruin it for everyone else.

I just moved here a few months ago and was soooooo excited for it... I hadn't been before and was ridiculously stoked. Hearing this is actually making me feel better (my sister too, it was her 17th birthday and I was taking her to this).

BTW, you guys wanna grab some drinks sometime? Send me a pm, we should have a silverlake gathering or something.

El Cid said they will keep their stage open for free since they never had a legally binding contract with the organizers and they will try and bring some of the displaced bands to play in their venue and sister venue Los Globos.
