Man, we would have the most awesome roadtrip ever. I like this idea.
When is a good time of year to visit the Grand Canyon? Maybe early October, or March/April?
FYI, there's a hostel in downtown Flagstaff walking distance to MELT that is pretty nice and has cheap private rooms with your own bathroom/shower. They also have dorm style rooms for up to like 8 people with a bathroom/shower in the room you can reserve, so depending on the amount of people going that might work.

Fresh off his "JUICY AUSTRALIA TOUR"

Speaking of the Grand Canyon. Has anybody done this yet?

Oh man. Looking at the picture, I *kind* of want to do that, but I couldn't be sure that I wouldn't actually piss my pants from fear once I got there. Some of my coworkers did it in March and loved it.
You guys are pussies.

Yeah, I read about that skywalk thing on travel blogs when it was first opened, and even though I have never been there, I already sort of hate it in concept. The idea of taking one of our nation's great natural wonders and building a tacky commercial carnival ride over the side of it doesn't really sit well with me.
Not to mention that they don't allow visitors to bring their own cameras, which is just lame.
I honestly have very little interest in visiting anyway. Havasupai is the way to go.

They have staff who will take your photograph and then sell you the images at hugely inflated prices. They probably don't allow you to take your own cameras so that more people will buy the staff-taken pictures.
That's weird. You mean at the skywalk specifically, right?
I agree it's a shame to throw an ugly man made structure on top of the canyon... I'd still be tempted to check it out though if I were already there. I mean, otherwise, I probably could not be convinced to get within 10' of the edge...

Yes, that thing is not at "The Grand Canyon" that people picture. The south rim is where the majority of tourists visit...they have a hotel and restaurant there and the train comes to within a few hundred feet of the rim. The north rim is the more rugged area, more for camping, and it closes in the winter.
That skywalk thing is at what they call the "west rim". It's what the Hualapai tribe has instead of a casino. This will give you an idea of how much less majestic it is...

Days Inn, it should be about $60.
I haven't figured out flights yet though.
Anybody MELTing this week? I'm looking for extra motivation to make the drive.
My truck broke down in a big way today.....fuck! Looks like I will have to wait until July, unless some Tucson boardie wants to come to my rescue. Have gas and grass, but no ass.
