Came here to post something off of Robert Hood's new album and it's already being discussed. This is good.

I'm starting to shop around for turntables. Probably Technics. I'm willing to spend a decent amount of money for the reliability, but am a little concerned about buying off Craigslist or secondary re-sellers. Are there any particular quirks or malfunctions I should be looking for?

I'm also assuming I'll have to invest in needles and cartridges for the used turntables. Does anyone have recommendations? Are there other equipment modifications I should consider? I'd like to keep the set-up as simple and barebones as possible. Again, willing to spend some money but not necessarily need total audiophile stuff; I'm not playing out with this rig, just using it to mix for myself and friends.

Musical contribution of the day: Magic Mountain High live at Panorama Bar. It's a collaboration between Move D and Juju & Jordash, with all analog gear and live instrumentation, that is capable of searing a hole in your brain: http://soundcloud.com/move-d/mmh-panoramabar

Also, keep your ears open for Premiesku's debut release. It sounds like prime Villalobos, as transporting as his new album, and will get incomparably less attention.

Nuit Noire as a whole was for me the best non festival night of music I've had so far this year. Stott and Kanding Ray were both extremely impressive and I really wish they'd both been given more than an hour (same for Demdike Stare).

Roughsteez will probably be able to review much better than I can, but it really was an outstanding night of music.

Stott was really good live. He played a few tracks off We Stay Together and dropped that Blondes remix for a little, which was warm and welcome. Hypnotic is the best word to describe his set.

I was really tired after Stott performed but shit Kangding Ray perked me up quick. That man is incredible live, I mean, I knew he wouldn't disappoint but he took the night to another level. His live sound was much closer to his Monad release than OR and the system at the loft complemented that perfectly. See this man if you have a chance.

What did you think? Just saw him at dB on Sunday night and it was absolutely fantastic. Only wish it had been a longer set. I have tickets to see him twice more on this tour, and I'd thought that would be overkill and that I'd probably bail on one or both of the remaining shows but now I definitely want to see the show a couple more times.

^ Caught Beaner once or twice in SF (from whence he came, if I'm not mistaken). Great record bag.

Looking for an ID on a track that Derek Plaslaiko dropped as he was handing off to Peter Van Hoesen on Friday last. The drums were very distinctive, akin to something you might expect from a civil war era military band. Strange, I know, but that's the best i can do as far as descriptions go. Seemed a bit silly at first but it absolutely CRUSHED the dancefloor ... not unlike SIS's Trompeta from a few years back.

of all the stuff upcoming, im most excited for Tin Man live. Been digging for sets lately - they are not easy to come by - but this one he explores his deeper stuff, with live vocals and then the more dancey shit: http://soundcloud.com/shaddockrecord...2-tin-man-live

Not the best recording quality but I still love it.
