There is a documentary called Speaking in Code. It's about the techno scene in europe, mainly Germany and the U.S. It is a MUST SEE for any fan of electronic music, or music in general. It could change your life.

Speaking in Code is an intimate account of people who are completely lost in music.

A heartbreaking and lighthearted documentary, it's a vérité glimpse into the world of techno.

Captivating and entertaining, the film takes you around the world, following the people who make electronic music ... their lives.

Getting a bit of insight into the lives of the artists involved with that movie is really fucking cool, but god that couple is insufferable. So melodramatic and whiney throughout the whole thing.

I found the couples struggle really genuine and thought it brought an interesting aspect to the film. Loving something and believing in something so strongly that it tears you away, and alienates you from the people you love.

On an abstract level, yeah. But not the way it played out in the film. They just seemed to be so unbelievably miserable even when things were going their way. It seemed stupid that they were sacrificing so much for this thing that when they actually got to do it, they didn't seem at all happy about it.

    Solid thread, Scarby. Thumbs up.

So much seems to all sound the same these days, I find minimal to be one of the more interesting genres for sure.

    8/06 - Herbie Hancock - Hollywood Bowl (?)
    8/07 - Haim - Wiltern (?)
    8/08 - Spoon - Hollywood Forever

I'm in favor if this. They way they let you filter posts/releases chronologically by label is sooooo helpful for staying on the up-and-up. They seem to keep it well updated too.

Yea this was not the same documentary I was thinking of. The guy is a complete dipshit. to modeselektor "Nice hats...you guys always wear hats, what's up with that?"... shut up dude. And the girl's voice is annoying as hell.

They didn't seem happy about it because they got divorced, man. I have a feeling she was banging all kinds of dudes while traveling and he was porking all the Boston rave sluts. lol. Overall, it was cool to catch a glimpse of the artists' lives, but it's definitely not a focused documentary.

For Villalobos Alcachofa is definitely the way to go. One of the best electronic albums you'll ever come across. Thé au harem d'Archimède is also excellent.

    MAX COOPER

EDIT: ANYTHING Max Cooper is amaze-balls. The more and more tracks I listen to, the more and more I'm determined to see him at least once in my life. He's also currently getting his pHD and researching genetics. Smarty.

This thread is all kinds of awesome. Unfortunately I have nothing to contribute because I'm just beginning to explore this/these genres. But from the sounds of it I've come to the right place. I've loved nearly every track posted here. I have yet to listen to some of the mixes, but I'll be traveling this weekend and plan on putting some of these on the ipod, ordering a bloody mary, and zoning out on the plane ride.
