Thread: Looking for reviewers. (for fans of Amon Tobin, Fly Lo, Shlohmo, etc...)

Default Looking for reviewers. (for fans of Amon Tobin, Fly Lo, Shlohmo, etc...)

    Greetings.

So my debut EP is dropping June 7th and I'm looking for some experimental/electronic lovers to give my EP a early listen and review before it drops. There is already a review done so far and you can read it here. Anyone interested in this?

Not necessarily defending this guy, but you think Amon Tobin and FlyLo are both crap?

I've heard a couple earlier Amon tracks that had an actual beat to them, but ISAM was fucking garbage. And yeah, FlyLo is crap. Beatless bullshit.

No, I haven't listened to a lot of him. But I've seen him spin twice. Neither time was there a real fucking beat. It was a lot of undanceable crap passed off as inventive or whatever. But it remains undanceable crap.

I'm sorry that you don't know what proper rhythm is.

Ive been a fan of tobin for 10 years and i see a few edm shows every week. Ill give it a listen, but ill warn you, im a pretty tough critic.

Is it mainly brokenkbeat stuff or does it have great diversity? I like diverse albums myself.

This may make your imagination even more callous.

Back on topic. Or do I have to be enlisted in the Coachella line up first? The times and spaces I've seen...

    Anyone else interested in reviewing?

    Thank you.

    Great diversity.

Its 'sound' lives vp to its Title. The color is there, the turbulence, and the spacesound is all over.

Dude, you're the worst. lol. With the level of skill in which he produces, he would definitely know how to produce a simple, generic, four on the floor, beat. But FlyLo (along with many other producers these days) choose to play with polyrhythms and off-time, complex, beats. It might sound weird to the untrained ear, but to the trained ear, it's dissonant and awesome. Learn your shit, d00d.
    Upcoming Shows:

    4/12-4/15 Coachella Weekend 1 ~ 4/26 DJ Shadow ~ 5/30 Tame Impala ~ 7/27 John Mayer ~ 8/24-8/25 FYF ~ 9/14 Godspeed You! Black Emperor ~ 10/16 Atoms for Peace

Yes, they were off-time and complex in that they were non existent.

Once again--it's not my fault that you don't understand music. Just because you think you heard something impressive and Pitchfork says it's impressive doesn't actually mean it's impressive.

As a Flying Lotus fan, I see where you're coming from Randy. His live shows are hit and miss and when he misses, it's a goddamn disaster. Even when he's doing a good set, there are bits where I wonder what the fuck he's thinking.

But at any rate, this still remains my favorite track he's ever put out (all 1:50 seconds of it...)

As a drummer, that right there just annoys the shit out of me. It sounds nice enough at first until he starts playing with what the fanboys think are creative time signatures and beats. It's not creative. All that he's doing is taking a sequencer, starting with like the very first fucking beat anybody learns how to play on a kit (not in any unique time sig, it's just 4/4), and then he adds in extra notes in the sequencer in places that they don't belong.

I'm not saying they don't belong there because it's not "four on the floor" or whatever some of these other douchebags like to accuse me of wanting out of my music. They don't belong there because there's no rhythm to it. You can't just throw random fucking percussion wherever you feel like it and take credit like you did something impressive.

Whomever said that what you like is the correct way of music? The originators? According to the Theory of Forms, you may want to embrace an more open mind set.

Check out my single to my upcoming album, but be aware, it follows no rules... its probably not your taste...

There aren't rules. There's just what sucks and what doesn't. There's rhythm and there isn't.

Your track is better than that FlyLo song Frazzles posted. It's actually not bad in general, personally I think you should focus more on melodies and patterns, less on filling the background with tons of beeping, maybe get some thicker bass lines, but you're competent. More competent than FlyLo.

I just don't really see the point of this genre. It's like music made that only really belongs as accompaniment to some fractal visualization playing on a screen. There's a middle ground there where you can be making inventive stuff that still has enough structure to arouse more emotion in the audience. Structures have been developed over thousands of years for a reason--they are proven primers that give you a starting point with which to move your listener.
