So I've seen all the episodes so far, but havn't read much on the show itself. Is the case suppose to be finished this season? Will there be a case a season? Same investigators in the future? Anyone know?

    Easily my favorite still-running/new show.

I'm pretty sure this is just a one time thing.

Nice little cliffhanger ending last night...the last two episodes have ended the way they all should have this entire time - by making the viewer want more.

Even that span of like 4 episodes in a row where they all ended with a scene making it look like Bennett was guilty and you knew he probably wasn't?

the only way i could imagine the series continuing would be if it was a totally new case, new investigators, etc. if they don't end the series with solving the investigation it'd be pretty weak.

I'm under the impression that the Danish series it's based on was a one-off, so that this will be too.

Well, I watched the first 7 episodes straight in two days catching up so that always seems better then waiting on a weekly basis, but yes I was wanting more every episode and would have tuned in. I think that there are other thing's happening in the town concurrently with the case is one of the more interesting aspects of the show, so it was interesting to see how Bennet really fit into it all since "we knew" he wasn't really the murderer.

Edit: Yah what you said. Also, this was based on a Danish series, which currently has the 3rd season in production. Didn't look into the plot though, but I bet it'll keep going. AMC really loves their new success with their shows.

Damnit. I really wanted this to be a one and done kind of thing. If they don't solve it by the end of this season, I'm over it. Not gonna wait til fucking August to find out who killed Rosie.

    No spoilers on plot:

The second series, Forbrydelsen II (The Killing II), takes place two years after the first and consists of ten episodes. The original Forbrydelsen consisted of 20 episodes.

If the second season was a completely new case, with less amount of episodes skipping repeat-exposition I'll continue to watch it. The case will be solved this season most likely.

You should know well enough that there are no "one and done" series on American television.

Edit: There are also plenty of ways for them to continue using the characters.

I mean the Dad will still be in prison, the councilman will be elected, the partner will be liked at the station, the main detective has known problems with attachment (to the city/job), blah blah blah. Won't be as good as it is now I'm sure though.

True, most shows labeled as a "series" usually go on for multiple seasons if possible. But when something's called a "miniseries" it's usually just a one time thing.

I'm talking about things like The Stand, John Adams, things like that. AMC doesn't call Mad Men or Breaking Bad a miniseries because they're actual shows. This is different.

Very true. I just always thing about how Battlestar Galactica started as a "mini series" that was mainly fan service, and then turned into a giant successful "series." I guess we'll see.

I'm pretty sure the New Yorker review said that the current case will be resolved this season, and then if the show's renewed for a second season, it would be a new case.

Just watched the last two episodes. Man, it is getting good. I love that I have absolutely no idea where it's going next, though I do agree with whoever said the focus may turn to the political campaign in the next couple of episodes.

Here's a totally wild piece of speculation which totally won't be true... The aunt did it. Rosie was actually having an affair with Jasper's dad. Jasper's dad was also seeing Rosie's aunt (the only thing I base this upon is the cool way in which he treated her at the funeral). When the aunt found out she went crazy and killed her. Of course, I have no idea how the campaign car fits into that. Sounds too much like a soap, I know. If I'm not crazy, please don't post any spoilers, people!

If this show continues after this season, I think a good model to follow would be Prime Suspect, the single greatest police series ever made. Period. Each "season" of Prime Suspect featured one new crime although there weren't as many episodes as there are in The Killing; I think 6 or 7 tops. If any of you haven't seen Prime Suspect, I highly recommend getting it on Netflix. I still think it's Helen Mirren's greatest role.

I've also been thinking its the aunt. To my knowledge, she doesn't have an alibi, there was one scene a couple of episodes ago where she was crying uncontrollably in the daughter's room, and she seemed unnecessary defensive when the detectives were questioning her in the last episode.

I still don't understand what the congressman's campaign has to do with the killing other than the fact that she was found in the campaign car and that clip where the congressman was filmed with the now deceased daughter.

Things are starting to get interesting.

I understand that it took 24 hours to get the warrant for the casino, and that the show follows a real-time timeline, but unless Jack playing hooky with his dad somehow leads them to find Rosie's killer, tonight's episode was complete shit and an utter waste of time.

I liked it. I also happen to like the characters. Reminds me of people bitching about Lost when it was a character development episode vs. a figuring shit out episode. The best were always the ones with both. This episode of the Killing just leaned a bit to heavily on the character side of things.

It's pretty obvious the show is building up the family issues which will all climax destroying Linden emotionally right as she is about to close the case. Something like that...

yeah last night's episode was a bit of a disappointment and got really boring. i don't think they needed to do the whole episode on that, it is on day 11 and there have been 6 episodes, i think, so they could have easily made that episode much better by skipping through most off the bullshit. oh well, 2 to go.

Total throw away episode last night. Unless the babys daddy ends up being the muderer that was just a filler episode.

I hope that they pace the ending well, and don't just go to the last minute and then boom suspect X is the murderer, see you next year.

I want at least a half of an episode showing how they come to the conclusion.

The luster has really worn off the last few episodes.
It's just dragging on forever in one long boring rainy slog full of people I find it harder and harder to give a shit about at all.
Who killed Sarah Larson? I'm coming around to thinking "who cares?"

Did that politician get elected or not?
    Who gives a shit?
In a severe economic depression they have cast the "bad guy" as the guy that wants to bring development and the "good guy" as the robot that doesnt seem like a bad guy per se but is certainly not a very endearing or likeable one except sometimes he plays basketball with inner-city kids.

Why do I care if he gets elected?
Literally nothing is at stake there.

If the other guy gets elected there will be condos.
    CONDOS!

I for one like this series. I have heard though from a number of sources that the original Danish version is superior. This is a good tv series, but its definitely inferior to heavyweights like The Walking Dead, Boardwalk Empire, or The Sopranos.

Im starting to think this storyline is going to spill into a second season, despite the fact that this hasn't been announced anywhere. The first 10 episodes have taken us in circles so far..

There's an old saying that I'm about to mangle that says something like "a cry always hurts more when youve seen someone laugh"

    Something like that.

And there lies part of the problem. All this overwrought Fincher-light shit has resulted in a bunch of brooding, soggy mumblefucks who only exist as vessels to sourpuss around. So who cares what happens? Once they find the killer it's still going to just be more of this grey dirge. Which could be powerful if there was more at play in the subtext than grey-as-stylistic choice.

At this point the killer is either someone we know (which would strain to make much sense) or someone introduced in the next two, in which case: so what?

Aside from DirecTV not offering AMC in HD, so many of the characters mumble their words (especially Holder) that I find myself rewinding over and over again just to make sure I didn't miss anything important, only to find that their words are nearly indecipherable.
