Default Newbie with a lot of questions

    Hello everyone,

I am presently in the process of saving every cent I can get my hands on for 2012 Coachella and after reading the forums I have a few questions. Forgive my ignorance I am new here.

    1. When does layaway normally start?

    2. How much will tickets be on layaway?

    3. Exactly how much cash do you guys recommend saving for the festival? Because I'm literally putting money away right now.

    Thanks for your help.

Layaway is new the past couple of years, but last year it started on December 10th and you were given a few options regarding the amount of your initial charge. You can expect tickets to likely be in the $300 range (probably a little over when you add in all the assorted ticket agency fees). You'll need money for the ticket, money for a flight or other transportation, money for lodging (anywhere from $50 and considerably upward depending on whether or not you plan to camp or stay in a condo or hotel), and probably about $300 for assorted weekend expenses (food/beer/merch/etc). Your decisions pretty much set your budget - one of the moderators here made this to help determine weekend expenses with a little more detail. Here's a newt.

    1. How much for a dozen or so newts?
    2. Do they come in different colors?
    3. How long do the LED lights inside last?

Newts are market price. They come in a random assortment of colors - please allow us to select for you. The LEDs can be expected to last up to 12x longer than our previously stocked incandescent newts and run on a single lithium battery, not included.

I would just like to say thank you for understanding you have to start saving now rather than waiting until tickets go on sale and then crying about how goldenvoice sucks because their festival sold out and proceed to come up with dozens of excuses outside of the real reason they didn't get tickets - they didn't prepare.

Just understand that everyone on these boards knows that Coachella will sell out faster than the five or six days it sold out in this year and you should buy during the initial layaway period.

at least it wasnt Newt Gingrich he'd be slimier. LOL.

I live in L.A. so I doubt travel will be much of an issue, tickets are my main concern since I'm wanting to get at least VIP or above. My girl went with a bunch of her friends and I am beyond bummed that I missed it.

My savings GOAL for next year is $3000 so that is why I'm looking into what the expenses are and whatnot.

From everyone I have encountered that has done VIP, it's not worth it at all. If you really want to save $3000, use it on a rental house and not VIP.

Do not buy VIP. It's barely anything. Your cash is put to better use enriching your general admission experience with the rest of the unwashed masses. I've gotten it for free a few times and usually wind up gnawing the plastic snap open and giving it to someone else partway through the weekend.

Renting out a Freshers stand for an hour and giving out free frozen lemonaid would be a better use of extra monies than VIP.

Though, this year there were new VIP sections to stand in right in front of the stage. But really I don't think that is worth it either. And allegedly the VIP bathroom access near the Sahara is nice, too. But seriously, you want your first Coachella to be an actual Coachella experience with a bunch of normies. If you are going to Coachella because you want to meet celebrities back stage a humble fuck you sir.

nah, its not to meet celebs. I really need to sit down with my girl and her friends to fully go over it so I can get the experience she had this year.

I'm just used to VIP or above, but I will definitely be among the 'unwashed masses' (i love that line)

I've got a year to make arrangements so I just need to know what im in for.

Hey man, VIP at Coachella isn't nearly as much of an experience changer as VIP would be in, say, a Vegas club. It really doesn't get you much more than quicker drinks, one extra section of porta-potties and a rose garden. Literally.

What we did this year, however, was splurge for nicer camping at the El Dorado campsite. Cannot say enough about this place...very secure, our tent was already pitched for us and cots/chairs set up, our tent opened up to a lake, air conditioned toilets, 5 minute shower lines, literally no search of our bags when we checked in...plus its a closer walk to the venue than a lot of the tent camping so we could easily run back between sets, chug some beers and head back.

Once you are inside VIP does nothing, but I'd definitely use that cash to go for nicer camping or a rental house. Trust me it's useless.

I don't think you could get into those sections with just a VIP band. You needed a guest or artist wristband.

Unfortunately its not - I had VIP and you could only use the front stage section with Artist / Guest or Production wristbands.

    Believe me I tried.

In relation to the "VIP" experience - I thought the Rose Garden area was nice but the main VIP was full of complete idiots.

The security guys I asked told me the same thing and someone with a VIP band on told me that section was only for "V VIPs."
