SONGS? Whole albums, yo. Start with Post and after that, everything in any order you like, with Homogenic preferably first.

This statement is false. If you don't like Post, listen to Homogenic. If you don't like Homogenic listen to Medulla. If you don't like Medulla listen to Debut. If you don't like Debut listen to Volta and then end with Vespertine, her finest work.

You can go in chronological order too. That's probably the best thing to do.

I agree with this. Just because you don't like one album by Bjork does not mean that you won't like her other albums. Unlike most artists, almost every album that Bjork does sounds different in some way or form.

Personally though, I think Homogenic is her best, possibly tying with Vespertine.

    2. Homogenic
    3. Debut
    4. Vespertine
    5. Medulla
    6. Biophilia
    7. Volta

Of course I can't place Biophilia over Medulla yet because I haven't heard it in it's entirety.

    2. Vespertine.
    3. Post.
    4. Debut.
    5. Medulla.
    6. Biophilia.
    7. Volta.

We can at least agree that Volta was a disaster.

    I FUCKING LOVE LISTS.

I don't think Volta was that big of a disaster.

    1. Homogenic and Vespertine switch places everyday.
    3. Post
    4. Medulla (I recently watched The Inner or Deep Part of an Animal or Plant Structure and this album is currently making a run for 3rd place.)
    5. Volta
    6. Debut

Medulla is much better than most people give it credit for. It's pretty fucking amazing.

It should be noted that Volta, though decent, is her only effort that I can't completely get with.

Everything else from her is either great or classic.

Yeah. Watching how the album was made really put it into perspective for me and made it open up so much more than when I originally listened to it. When I first listened to it I had a vague idea of what an 'all vocal' album meant. I thought it consisted of almost all vocal samples and voice manipulation tricks, but it's not. The songs are complete performances by choirs, beatboxers and weird noise makers with very little sampling and manipulation. It kind of blew my mind.

Volta isn't that bad. Oddly, it seems here everyone likes Debut more than they should. It's not bad either, but compared to the rest of her catalogue, it's pedestrian in comparison.

Vespertine and Debut are both right there in my book; I'd give Debut the edge because it's a bit raw and I appreciate that, but aside from that I generally don't prefer one over the other in a given instance.

    Now fuck off, Wedge.

I have a shitload of her pre-Sugarcubes icelandic language stuff that i found in a torrent a long time ago. A lot of it is pretty traditional sounding music, but there's some neat stuff in there. The cover to that LP is pretty awesome.

Don't know what your problem is with me, Obzen.

And yes, I used to be pretty hardcore on Bjork releases, although not lately. I will pick up the new one day one, though.

Netflix has it on dvd. I also look froward to watching it. The dvd side of Medulla in the Surrounded boxset release has a terrific documentary of the making of the music video for "Triumph of a Heart." Themiddle section of the song was totally recreated and extended quite a bit and performed live by all of the people in the video during the bar section of the video. it's fucking awesome. The process of finding and collecting all of those local Icelandic wackos is very amusing.

That kind of reminds me of the making of 'Excuses' by The Morning Benders. They gathered like a bunch of instrumentalists as well.

I don't know if I could watch that. Bjork's song structures and approach to music is so different from a lot of other artists, it might take away from the magic. I'd just prefer to think all the songs came about from an Icelandic pagan ritual, and keep it at that.
