So last night I caught Scuba at Baltic Room and wasn't very impressed with the sound for the event. Not sure if dB brought in extra sound - there were a couple stacks hanging from the ceiling and 2 towers near the front. Adam and I were next to one the whole night and were able to easily converse. If you're bringing one of the biggest names in the whole post-dubstep/future bass genre out- someone very few promoters manage to grab - have your sound straight. Especially if the artist blew your shit out last time he played.

I've been asking my boyfriend about the sound last year at this fest and he's only spoken highly of the sound at Neumos. What are other people's thoughts on this? The quality of artists combined with the genres played are such that sound needs to be on point. If not, I just feel we are missing out on some of the experience. I know there were basslines we missed out on but still an excellent set last night.

Not surprised. Adam told me the same thing last year (which ea also at the Baltic room).

Neumos was great. The Nordstrom is fucking outrageous

Oh let me also add that Adam asked Scuba if he'd be back for dB and he replied with "yes. maybe. talk to Sean".

Neumos upgraded their sound system around winter 2010. More importantly, Neumos and Motor had 4 additional large woofers in front of the stage to really bring the thump. I assume other venues had (will have) this as well. Unfortunately I don't think the Baltic Room has space for extra woofers, which could be the culprit here.

And like forza said, the surround sound in the Nordstroms hall for the optical shows is phenomenal.

    Motor CIty Drum Ensemble

    http://www.dbfestival.com/festival/d...-2011-artists/

"...influences from soul, disco and detroit and chicago 90`s house..."

As an aside I've really enjoyed Hanssen and Jon McMillion. Might have to take back my ragging on the lineup drip release method.

So with James Blake being in Seattle on September 24th at the Showbox, I guess this is a no go?

Good news. How this man's music is championed by so many of you is beyond me. I just don't hear it.

    It's good.

He has two completely different styles of music all in one collection of music he's released. He brings so many different cards to the table, it's ridiculous. I'm not saying it's revolutionary and it's never been done, but the way he does it...

It's fine if it doesn't appeal to you, but no need to be a jerk buddy. A lot of us on here have nothing but love for the guy.

Yea, i've seen your fanboy page.

What cards does he bring to the table?

He sounds like something girl talk would mix together... a really cheesy, soulless version of Usher vs Milos. I guess that is pretty ridiculous.

You really lack creativity. I listen to a pretty diverse and eclectic range of music and I'll listen to everything, including James Blake. I have listened to everything he has put out and it just sounds like an uninspired attempt to merge various soundscapes. Oh well, it aint my thing, glad he's not going to hog a night at dB; next topic.

Clean out your ears buddy, this kid is an artist. He's been playing piano since he was a kid and that's one of the cards. He can PLAY. He's not just sitting behind a laptop arranging random piano loops, all while being able to bust out the "bangers."

& the fact that you know of the kind of stuff Girl Talk produces kind of says enough about where this discussion is going so...

Getting back on track, first week of artist announcements was stellar. Wonder if we'll get any "heavy hitters" this week.

But I love girl talk... he's an artist. He's been working on computers since he was 5!

The music blog generation is in love with characters who have any shred of classical training or childhood musical interest like it's some sort of 'proof of genius'.

Ignore my opinion if you don't like it, you don't have to justify the music you love.

BECAUSE IT FUCKING IS! Come on, in a day and age where any dumb fuck with a laptop and Ableton can be considered an "electronic musician", isn't it refreshing to see musicians out there actually working and making REAL music?

"Hey this guy is actually playing an instrument, I don't like him. Who does he think he is?"

They are playing at Primavera, and Last fm has them listed as "ambient, experimental, post-rock, electronic, drone" sounds like my kind of music.

Just to make it a bit more equal, Aurgasm explain why Richie Hawtin (or another artist) is so amazing!
