Thread: dB Festival

Always better to have more options then less and while I'm not going to be cabbing it back and forth from Pikes Place to Cap Hill, there looks to be enough to see for a gradual progression from the opticals each night to pike/pine. However, I do wish they had put the RA showcase OR the Tri Angle showcase on Saturday instead which would spread out some of the conflicts on Thursday to Saturday which is really lacking right now. It looks like Thursday and Friday are the main nights/mornings.

I also was hoping to avoid SoDo but I really want to check out Blondes so Ill probably cab over there after the optical and then cab right out of there. Did they really have to put Blondes down there? Anyways very excited and I think the after parties are going to be a lot of fun.

I would think you would like Seattle and all the microbrews they have to offer. The weather shouldnt be too bad around then either. Last year it was 10 degrees warmer the SF. Come join!

Well, I guess we'll see how feasible it is after the set times come out, but I think there may be a few people who try to make it to Blondes. Have a feeling there will be people to share rides with. I don't remember seeing many cabs down there, but at least now there is Uber/Lyft/etc.

I missed Blondes last time around, and really want to see them this time, but the Haxan Cloak conflict is making that tough to consider....

I have been saying that for months. If you have a place to stay, you should do it! The flights there aren't really that expensive.

Yeah, cabs here are pretty sucky but since Lyft and Sidecar moved in there's no need for cabs. Lyft > Sidecar in my experience so far.

Heidi - I want to see Blondes too, but SoDo...and since there's something else extremely worthwhile at the time, fuck it I guess.

I've never actually spent time in Seattle, and I do typically like to christen cities with bile upon arrival.

Some of these showcases are making me salivate.

I was really impressed with Machinedrums' JETS project with Jimmy Edgar. Dude has a talent for fun variety of beats that stack up against each other. The Vapor City concept is intriguing and probably will be very good. Definitely check out JETS though.

It doesn't sound like the distance to SODO is a factor since it looks like you plan on catching the entire showcase. It's really just up to what you'd rather catch. SODO isn't a great venue and that show is all ages. I went to a dB showcase there in 2011 and the drinking area was corralled on the opposite end from the stage (if that's an issue for you). Q has really good F1 sound but can get a bit crowded due to the awkward layout and that is 21+. Personally, I didn't care for Phaelah's recent album at all, and Mount Kimbie were mediocre this last tour (I'm not hot about the new album and the crowd was irritating so I left a couple songs early). I'd like to catch Nicolas Jaar again but I'm not going to go all the way down to SODO to do so. The Deep Roots lineup is nice but I'm thinking I'll be at Ghostly FO SHO for Dauwd (so excited for him) then I'll just split my night between that showcase and xxyxx/machinedrum I suppose.

Jimmy Edgar laid down one of the sickest DJ sets I've ever seen at Bass Coast this year. My favourite set of the festival.

Yea, same here. I don't know what to say when my most anticipated act cancels for a festival that was already looking a little lackluster to me this year. Guess I will make the best of it since I have non-refundable travel arrangements. Next year: European fall festivals.

Edited to add: I'm tired of the war on electronic music. How often do you really hear about rock musicians being denied visas?

Yeah wasn't last year's denied visa Actress? (another anticipated performance) Well the silver lining is that my biggest conflict has been eliminated and I will probably see Blondes, Lapalux, and Actress now. I really don't want to venture up to Chop Suey for Vessel only.

(nothing better happen to Dauwd. He's my other super important must not miss of the festival)

Yea, I'm not sure I'm willing to trek to the SoDo for Blondes. We'll see after the set times come out. It might make more sense to go to the SoDo after the Optical, before the Crocodile.

Based off your handle youll enjoy Jaar, Kimbie, Phaelah. However Henrik Schwarz, based off his reputation and affiliation with innervisions as I've to see him, will be a great choice as well.

I saw Jaar at fyf a couple years ago... he's absolutely phenomenal, but we sided on Henrik. Can't wait.

Going through Max Cooper stuff now, Electric Deluxe seems like a must-see at this point.

Yeah Max Cooper has a very unique sound that will leave a lasting impression. Definitely recommend seeing him if you never have. I would recommend checking out at least some of the Hessle Audio Showcase since it is just around the corner. Great label and versatile DJs.

Also I wonder what is going on with Diamond Version. Per their FB they said that they will be on Sunday but their website still does not indicate when and where they will play. The good news is that they are still on the website.....

Yea, I was going back over my schedule too, and wondering that. Starting to get nervous since they're still not there, but I guess when the printable schedule comes out this week, we'll know for sure.
