I just noticed that Nils Frahm is on the lineup. He is an amazing pianist/composer. I've only seen youtube videos of his live music but its the type of music that will give you goosebumps. It also could put you to sleep in contrast to the electronic music you'll primarily be hearing at the festival but I think many on here would appreciate his work.

Yup, I'm familiar with Nils, hoping this is one of the Opticals.

Well. URB jumped the gun and posted an article yesterday, that was then removed. The URL and headline still come up in google search results, if you're really curious what it said the headliner addition is.

**NOTE** that people working for the festival said that article was not official / cleared with them and that there could be errors. So it's not clear whether it's BS (as URB is sometimes prone to post) or if dB just didn't want to be scooped (I'm leaning towards this).

Last night I saw Jacques Greene at Barboza which is a fairly new venue. It's under Neumos, you still enter into Neumos but go downstairs. The capacity is about 200 and it's a nice little spot. The sound is excellent, probably the best I've heard here outside of Paramount. I just checked to see if it was on the list of venues and it is!

the shadowsphere show in SF recently was promoted as the last shadowsphere show ever.

looking at the nocturnal lineup the weekend before - I have a feeling gui borrato might be a part of this announcement. is digweed too much to hope for?

Shadowsphere was just here a few months ago. I hope they wouldn't bring it back and tack on "last Shadowsphere show" since that's what was said last time around.

I don't see there being any crossover between Nocturnal and dB except for Orbital obviously.

How late do these showcases generally go? Is it venue dependent or does the city grant special late-night licenses for the festival?

DVS1, PVH v. Demdike Stare, Cut Hands, Andy Stott seems a heart-wrenching conflict.

Do the all-ages shows invariably attract lots of teens or does that mostly depend on the music?

Last year there were a couple showcases that ended around midnight or 12:30am (I think these tend to be the all ages shows at Paramount, possibly Showbox Market, Crocodile). The 21+ shows ended closer to 2am. The Opticals last year ended by 8 or 9pm but I'm not sure how they will work it out this year since there are 3 more of those. The teens at shows really depends on the music. I would expect a younger crowd at Kimbra, Mimosa, Shadow but not really at the Opticals.

Even if younger folks come to the Opticals it doesn't matter because no one is talking or getting all up in your space since it's seated. And breathtaking. And sometimes sleep-inducing in the best way possible.

the optical showcases bum me out this time around... the few people i want to see are spread across everything, with a bunch of lame stuff interspersed throughout. oh well, snagged tickets to the modern love and raster noton. i'll play it by ear for the rest.

I think I only went to one all ages show (other than the opticals) last year, and definitely didn't notice any crowd problems associated with younger people.

I finally purchased a ticket to see Orbital. I cannot stay the entire weekend so will just catch another show on friday night before hitting the Oregon Ducks/WSU game on saturday. Really looking forward to Orbital at the Paramount, it will be legendary!
