Do we think the live band aspect makes it more accessible for coachella than just your run of the mill dj set? Especially since the Mojave has started shifting more towards electronic music and especially live band electronic music? There are hundreds of djs they can fill the sahara tent with but not so many live/electronic bands.

Yes. good point. I think it will depend on how well the album is received combined with the live reviews. Also, it seems to me like Apparat Band will hit the states but probably not a whole lot of markets (basing this off his past shows). So maybe come next year Coachella will see it as somewhat of a rare act in the sense that not a whole lot of cities get a show.

I know most of us just want him there in some form.

Apparat does an interview towards the end. Overall its a great piece and gives a lot of insight about Moderat. I guess it was going to be a one off thing. Hopefully its not though.

Apparat discusses the new album, tour, and music production.

"We’ll have special lamps, etc. It’s not going to be a show like with Moderat. It should have this organic and human feeling to it to reflect the music. I don’t want to have a fancy digital video show. It’s more about music. It should be pretty dark and cinematic. People should be on a little journey, hopefully. "

"I don’t even touch a computer to make music anymore. "

Can't really consider this a "find" since he posted it on fb and it just showed up in my news feed. ha. but regardless I wanted to share because I often miss a lot of things on fb. It really is a great interview. Now his comments last year at LiB make a whole lot of sense. He was really tired of what he was doing.

I think this guy might be onto something. As a huge, huge indie fan for years I have watched the scene get more and more tired overall. At the same time, bands like Cut Copy, Crystal Castles, and James Blake have pushed indie in a more electronic direction. The two may eventually meet somewhere in the middle with a music style that is totally new and creative.

is mostly embarrassing. A lot of these DJ's are total shit now. I guess it's like claiming that you used to like U2 or Kings of Leon. They used to actually be good bands, but now they aren't worth the gasoline in their tour buses.

Sasha and Sven Vath are good. Portishead's last album was sleepy, not anything new at all. I loved their first two albums though. Paul Oakenfold sucks now, IMO. Completely cheesy. BT is fucking horrible. I havent ran across anything new from Taylor, LTJ Bukem, or Judge Jules yet.

I guess I am heading down more of the Apparat/SBTRKT/SCUBA/minimalism path. just seems a bit more creative and fresh to me. But, to each their own, and all of it is fresh enough to me right now that I would dance and have fun at a live set.

I really wish Scuba would play a live set, I don't think I'd go out of my way to see another Scuba house set. Also, I think a lot of people are embarrassed to some extent of the music they use to listen to or at least some of the artists they once enjoyed - especially when you don't really keep up with all the new music emerging over a lengthy period of time.

I really like the live band aspect of it all. I like that they are playing Fractales. It makes me hopeful that they might also play tracks like Jet, Berlin, or Tel Aviv. If that is the case, you can take your Apparat Rave back to where it came from because the live band blows it out of the water.

This unknown track is interesting but I need to see it in the context of a set or album before being able to process how I feel about it. Too early to make any opinions overall with only 2 videos and one being of questionable quality.

At the very least, more Apparat is better than no Apparat.

Hopefully we are blessed with some tour dates in the future......

    Translated from: http://www.go-mag.com/es/musica/entr...d-sonar_r1425/

Sascha Ring is an artist with class, despite the look of poverty that has been showing lately. After sweeping their last two projects, along with Modeselektor and Moderat thugs and their eternal mix for the series "DJ Kicks", Apparat headset hangs momentarily big news under his arm. In April announced it would no longer hide his talent behind the apple of your laptop to form a new band and wielding instruments associated with rock. His signing with the label Mute to deliver a new album and tour presentation comes at a point of maturity of the talented German musician. Some regret their flight from the dance floor, others will stand and applaud warmly. Either way, something we can all agree: Apparat is a wizard when it comes to electronic billing Creek emotional bone, from clubbing to walk to the purist of all life. Different resources, very emotional intelligence. Apparat Band will perform on Saturday 18 in the SonarHall (Sonar by Day). You can buy tickets here .

    Emotional Intelligence
    Alberto Vidal
At this point in the film, we all know the unique Sascha Ring. For at or b know what walking footwear. There are those who have been planted in the small architectural marvel idm was "Walls" (Shitkatapult, 07). Others choose to stay with the snapshot of his most danceable, in that seductive Ellen Allien project called "Orchestra of Bubbles" (Bpitch, 06). Almost everyone can agree that "moderate" (Bpitch, 09) was conceived one of the most interesting projects of the past decade in terms of cutting edge electronics are concerned. Although for the vast majority still remain recorded fragments of colossal mix "DJ Kicks" (! K7, 10) in our consciousness, a lesson in how to fuse techno and dubstep with infinite class. Its yet another project to record a new job with his new band where acoustic instruments are the protagonists. His time at this year's Sonar festival will serve to calibrate its staging. Bet on the winning horse.

MOM, I WANT TO PLAY IN A BAND
Sascha Ring is like a child with new shoes. After the flood of good reviews for its mix of mythological home! K7 and a more remarkable tour to promote it, its new fad exist under the umbrella of the label Mute will be his new home. Many changes in a short period of time. "Long ago I've been making music, about twelve years now. I've always been step by step, sometimes making small steps while other times I have taken some bigger. For example, the draft Moderat was a big step, we wanted to do something great and a good manager and in the end I think the thing went pretty well. It was definitely a highlight in my career to play with these guys (Modeselektor), as with Ellen Alien ago years. Both experiences taught me that I prefer to be accompanied on stage. I think it's much better to play live with more people on stage to share this exciting time. Also, I could make a childhood dream, as as a kid I always wanted to play in a band and play drums, "reveals an affable and communicative Sascha the other side of the phone.

In short, the guy had his punk spirit when I was a kid, like most of my neighbors. Her drive to surface the idea of the band and his signature on the contract with Mute did the rest. "I finished the album with the band around last Christmas. The truth is that it was very hard work has brought me occupied about two years. Then I handed the disk to my manager, Daniel Meteo. He liked it, and now is an independent label Mute seemed good to us both sides together and remove the goods from the band. "

    HANG THE DJ
It's not all flowers and happy ending stories with Apparat decision to launch a new artistic journey. In indomitable artistic spirit, we add one more event that has tipped the balance. Like any change is there something that Sasha has left behind. "I was tired of electronic music for two reasons: first of myself playing the same thing and then the clubs in general electronics. I can say one thing very clear, no never tread a club just for fun. It is true that sometimes the meetings are worthwhile, but in 90% of cases I think it's just a room with people who want to merge to run riot drugs and find someone to fuck. As a musician, such scenes do not at all satisfactory, "he pulls out a Apparat released.

"I can not understand how there are DJs," he continues, "that may be twenty years of his career doing the same. The truth is that I'm not a very good dj, but not these guys understand that for every weekend are clicking up 7 in the morning ... must be something more, do not. "Because for a server has more reason than a saint and the Teuton is encouraged to crack, I insist with a statement something tricky but quite logical . How is it possible that after a successful "DJ Kicks" suddenly a cloudy toxic air so sweet a moment? Apparat replied emphatically that "it is logical. I think I've more or less tired when I reached my peak as a DJ. The mix of live presentation went very well, people responded well. Therefore it is best to leave ! For me it is an option to keep doing this simply because it works, you know I think many artists do not take responsibility for his work as DJ and are always blowing up the scene by clicking and doing this for years. It's pretty sad actually pisses me off so much and I do not want to step on the clubs. "

    Apparat Band

    The 'bumping' Apparat
Clarify the reasons and missed the German artist, what better to focus on the juicy new project up to. Meet the three remaining members: Nackt (also co-produced the disc) is responsible for the guitars, piano and keyboards. Ben Lauber, piano and synths also. Wahner Jörg command the percussion. The quartet has already prepared the first album for the hot month of August. Track number one tucked in the least: not the same band that formed to play live "Walls". The reason is "because the project of 'Walls' was more electronic. Now it's different because the idea is not to use the computer on stage, or at least play a whole song just using a laptop. Our idea is to play on stage as a band either. He obviously has electronic essence, we will not deny it, but retains a more human nature and therefore is a more intense, "clarifies Sascha.

Already adequately engaged in conversation about the details of this project, points out that "the reason I started this project is very easy, very instrumental album sounds, say that there is an equivalence in the use of computers and acoustic instruments. Therefore would sound like crap if you just took the stage with a laptop. As I said, I find it essential to be clothed with colleagues on stage and make something special happen. " Since the early interview about the new project, unfortunately we have not enjoyed a promotion in order to issue a first verdict and thirst quencher. The only advance of that we had was that of the officially published "Ash" and "Black Veil". A preview of what will be the rest of the album? "Indeed, the sound of the album is definitely similar to the theme of 'Ash'. Contains vocal conveys warmth and intensity and is never entirely electronic. The rest of the songs we wrote based on 'Ash', always looking for the human analog sounds and more possible. "

Indeed, to humanize electronics has always been a personal challenge of Apparat. A differential which of course was present at the conception and production of the disc. The artist himself shelled us that "I started writing all the songs when I was touring with Moderat. I then tried to move the new creations to the study, but did not work, perhaps because it was the right time. Then I went to Mexico also toured with Moderat and got into the study with Telefon Tel Aviv (unfortunately the only survivor) to rework the songs. It worked better and ended up in Berlin and refined. In the beginning was more electronics and the rest of the instrumental band, but eventually we all did everything plan was more in free will. We spent some time in the studio, always trying to perfect the sound to limits obsessive like coming home and discard everything done during that day. "

Two elements stand out in the new purpose of the tireless artist. On the one hand the use of instruments 'real' and another voice (although Mr. Ring and has shown it is able to do before, as in the great song "Rusty Nails" Moderat). On the first point states that "it was very hard face of real instruments again, refine it for hours and blended with the rest of the band. That got me thinking of all the energy he needed me this new project and the important value it meant to do. It's good to remind me, because now it seems that the music downloads no longer has any value. Play back instruments like the piano has been a great contrast. " Regarding his voice so often missed, it is quite clear: "Yes, every day is an instrument, but because almost force me to use it!" He says laughing, referring to his friends. "People around me forces me to always use more. The truth is that using it makes the songs take a more serious turn, makes the charges more realistic piece of music. Over time I have become much more confident in their use, say that I have no fear or respect as both a few years ago. "

With regard to direct to us in Sonar, the expectation could not be higher. "We're still polishing the details, because the show is being transformed as we played. We will be on stage four. I play guitar and bass sometimes . Say you will not be fiddling with the laptop. It will be a show look cinematic and very emotional. So let's dispense with the visual. We want everything to be very organic, so we do not want multimedia on stage. "Seek me in the front row.

Red face I was at Sonar 2011 last week

I just got back to San Francisco and was in Barcelona last week for Sonar 2011 and Apparat Band was pretty much at the top of my list for "must see" performances.

I regret to report that I missed Apparat, as he played at Sonar by Day (early afternoon) on the final day following Boys Noize closing out the night before from 5am - 7am... so there was no fucking way I was going to be able to wake up for the day festivities after tripping balls so hard a few hours prior. I was really disappointed in myself that I couldn't make it to see Apparat Band, but I've heard his new track mentioned above and am very confident that it'll be a very strong release once it does come out at the end of this summer.

As a sidenote: Boys Noize fucking killed it. I haven't seen him destroy a live set that hard since Coachella 2008. His latest album, Power, may sound rather repetitive and a little misdirected when listened to independently, but his live effort with that material is just out of this world.

Also: Sonar is an incredible music festival. It was the first time I've ever traveled abroad to goto a music festival (we didn't go *just* for sonar, but we just rigged it so that sonar would come at the end) and I was very pleased. Spaniards and the foreigners from surrounding European countries know how to get down and party without getting sloppy. In recent years, as Coachella has transformed slowly into Brochella to some degree, it's a little embarrassing to witness our fellow Americans drink themselves into face-planting in the beer garden & vomiting at 2pm on the first day (which I did witness this past year). I look forward to checking out a festival in perhaps Germany next :]

Lastly, Sonar by Night (the rave-y portion of the festival) had indoor bumper cars directly facing a DJ set stage... Coachella has some sick attractions but hell, I was impressed.

"Computer games don't effect kids, I mean if Pac-Man effected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music." -Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989
