That wouldn't be there for me, just like The Minutemen's Double Nickels wouldn't be. Both fantastic albums that are all over the place stylistically and show a band playing in peak form. Great, but not as cohesive as I'd want for a perfect record.

Upon a recent relistening, I will retract Back in Black from the list. I realized that I don't like a couple songs on there. Oh well.

I know I mentioned this album already, but "Grace" by Jeff Buckley is one album that I can put on my stereo, lay on the floor with my eyes closed, and just completely lose myself in the music. Every single song on Grace is brilliant, and I still get chills listening to Jeff singing Hallelujah.

If Buckley had lived, people wouldnt think anything more of him than they do Duncan Sheik.
I was there when this record came out and it was pretty meh then. The "classic album brilliant artist" hosannahs went into overdrive after he died because people love that sort of shit.

It has to be consistent, coherent, and important. That's at least a start. Like, I love every single song on The Kills' Midnight Boom, but I still wouldn't consider it a perfect album because it doesn't feel like a unified sonic statement about anything, just a really fucking great bunch of songs. Another thread reminded me that Autechre - Tri Repetae is perfect.

Doesn't have to be art rock. If all the tracks are solid, and none feel like they could be dropped without sacrafice, then it's a perfect album.

Why not discuss/lightly debate the meaning of perfect? It adds to the quality of the thread. If someone comes in and says "oh man, this Jack Johnson album is just perfect to me because it reminds me of my honeymoon in Kauai" they need to be told to GTFO.
