Checkmarks on Cars?

I know everything is over and done with, but does anyone know what the checkmarks in window chalk on the cars in the campgrounds meant? I saw like maybe 5 or 6 that didn't have them and was curious.

They put the checkmarks in as we were coming in - after they searched us. I think it meant to indicate that we'd passed the search so that the people directing traffic could tell by looking at a car whether it had passed or it had snuck in.

Our checkmark disappeared by Monday because the marker they used on our car was basically all out of paint so it was barely visible.
