More ... new album as well?

    http://louderthanwar.com/featured/st...-album-as-well

I never saw them the first time round and John Squire's mountain bike accident in '95 prevented me seeing them at Glasto.

Ian Brown's vocals have left my ears scarred each time I've seen him solo and with the passing of 20+ years since their peak I can't help thinking it would be impossible to rely on the original chemistry to support the greatest hits on tour or carry them through the process of recording a new album.

Unless there's a new spark, this resurrection could be a car crash, on and off stage. I hope not. I hope they take Roger Waters' approach to the recent Wall Tour and bring back The Stone Roses bigger and better than ever.

SR did a handful of US gigs in 1995, but never with the classic 4 member lineup. 4 US shows were cancelled in 1990.

Also, the small turnout for SUEDE at chella in 2011 hints at a small turnout for SR. Plus they wouldn't do one of their first gigs in California. Like PULP/BLUR there's a liklihood the reunion won't touch down stateside.

Yea I can't imagine we'd get a reunion tour in the US. I can't imagine they were ever more popular in the US than in late 1994/early 1995 after "Love Spreads" charted. Was expecting to have to go to the UK for a reunion show...

I dunno, $$$ talks... and I can think of half a dozen friends at the least who would probably make the trip out to Indio for the first time with me JUST for the Stone Roses gig. Of course, we're all sort of cultish fans. Normal people wouldn't probably do the same.

I will if I have to. I couldn't just let this waltz by like I did with Blur and Pulp. Not again....

I could see ATP working better for SR unless someone like Lolla wanted to take a bite. I just can't see April 2012 working for them schedule wise in California.

ATP doesn't have the money to draw an ac like the SRs.

Portishead and MBV aren't cheap acts to book, especially for such exclusive US shows that had to happen on a certain weekend. For whatever reason ATP had stronger booking power to those acts than other US festivals with money to burn.

For reference, Pulp spent at least October-April rehearsing. Didn't the Sun say that the Stone Roses have been rehearsing since the summer?

It's possible - there were news stories in April saying they were reuniting this year.

the real question here is: does this thing become something like what the Happy Mondays were in the Sahara or Sly Stone was in the Mojave?

The promoter booking them is aiming for the lucrative summer festival season in Europe - like Pulp/Blur. There's zero logic is them playing months in advance of UK fests in a country thousands of miles away where the 4 members never played in the past - especially an act that did so-so gigs in the past and a guitar player who's not known to have touched the instrument in 4 years.

SR would be billed about the same as Portishead/MBV at Coachella, if not lower. ATP was able to afford PH/MBV - plus outdoor weather in Europe around late september gets dodgy.

Open yer gob Im jizzin everywhere. Union of the Reunion. "Stop the world, I'm getting off".

Been on the Roses kick, for the first time in years, the last couple days from the news. They are a Top 5 band for me. Did an acoustic guitar rendition of 'Sally cinnamon' for a report about the band in front of a class full of blank faced, straight ahead staring asian classmates at Cypress College. Got polite applause. It's on VHS tape out there somewhere.

somebody isn't reading thoroughly enough. No mention that these will be their first shows back in fact it stresses that these shows will be part of an "extensive world tour". Coachella could very possibly be their first show back, they'd have to give Stone Roses a spot on the main stage though part of Suede's low turnout was the fact they were in the Mojave right before Arcade Fire.

No suede's low turnout was due to the fact that very few people in the US have heard of them.
Suede were probably quite cheap to book, however Stone Roses first gig reunion isn't going to come cheap. I don't doubt a lot of people would be interested, but Stone Roses would be more curiosity to the majority of Coachella attendee's.
