Planning side-trips to catch side gigs by "conflicted" acts takes much more than a week.

For those living in the Vancouver-Frisco corridor you have to gamble seeing an acts locally or hope they are easy to see at Coachella.

I've had festival conflicts that i still haven't decided were wise or not, 2 years after the event. You're not always assured a "next time" with certain acts(ie: PIL vs. Fever Ray were each once-in-a life gigs for many from the west coast) Having forum thread weighing pro-con of certain conflicts would be welcome.

Also, I've never seen the late release of set times adequatly explained ANYWHERE.

Well Paul T works on them up until a day or two before they are released.

Yeah, I think Paul T did talk about it in an interview once. He alone makes the setlists, and he said he doesn't release it until he is happy with it... which seems to be the week of the festival. He also acknowledged Coachella releases their set times a lot later than any other major music festival... but he said he feels the amount of time he puts into the schedule justifies the late release.

While I do agree with you bumblebee... it does suck. Especially living in Vancouver. But I tend to agree with Paul T. Coachella really does have the best schedules out of any of the major music festivals. Pretty much all the other ones use cookie cutter set times and just place bands into preset times. Ever day at every Coachella looks different and that is because Paul T takes the time to consider all sorts of alternatives, where bands work best, etc.

I've also personally wonder how much "flaky acts" is a factor. Coachella seems to book more acts that cancel in the weeks leading up to the weekend than other fests.

Another issue is some fests do intentional conflicts to reduce crowd size so certain stages aren't overloaded.

I've wondered why some fests have evenings full of conflict while mid afternoon stages are filled with poster small print "filler". ACL 10 was silly in this regard, I saw some 3-4 way conflicts in couple time slots for me.

I think they have more flaky acts simply because it has so many fucking acts in the first place. I'm sure proportionally Coachella has a similar ratio to other smaller fests.

I got an email saying that the set times have been printed on 3/30, but not sent to anyone, because they ran out of keyboards to type and print them out on.
