Cool The Official Ice Situation (keeping the icebox cold)

We don't all wanna pay for overpriced icebags at the camping general store do we?

Last year I remember the group i was with had purchase some from the general store. but also made a few runs to the local Wallmart for more ice. taking a bus or a shuttle. idk if shuttle passes were even necessary. they said it came back and fourth all day. any info on this?

and also talking with friends we got the idea of using dryice instead to last all weekend. possibly freezing everything in the icebox but at least doing somethiing. maybe a cheaper choice if used wisely?

Maybe you should summarize the ice portions for your new thread!

do the six day coolers really work?

I know they are listed for 90 degrees and it will get hotter than that (especially in a car).

But I only need 4 days (thur-sun) AND it would just be for drinks (I am not going to be cooking shit). It is not like I need to keep a freezing temp.

We are giving dry ice a go this year. Our plan is to have 2 x coolers... 1 x plastic Coleman and 1 x styrofoam.

Styrofoam cooler = block of dry ice wrapped in tinfoil, bottled water (which will freeze solid), bag of ice for mixed drinks, any food we want to keep frozen.
Plastic cooler = all other food we want to keep cool.

Planing on moving the frozen water bottles from the styrofoam / dry ice cooler into the plastic one to act as ice packs. Then re-upping the styrofoam with more water bottles to freeze. Rinse & repeat.

    Hoping it'll work...

yeah the only thing is during the festival i don't wanna be trippingn about the not-dryice cooler to melt its stuff if i keep food in there.

unless i freeze a bunch of waterbottles to act as ice. that idea would work in a way. i'll have to experiment ahead of time

is there anywhere to buy dry ice at coachella? we're arriving into vegas at midnight and driving straight through, struggling to find somewhere open 24hr that sells it en route...
