January thru April 29th - The worst time of the year here.
Hey caco0283, what were your favorite performers of the weekend? The webcast was disappointing in it's selection but I understand the clearance factor. I'm slightly surprised that they don't have the negotiation power to be able to choose who to show in the contract. Maybe in the future if webcasting becomes standard in festivals. Really thought Ultra did an excellent job with the camera angles. However, at times it seemed like the crowd was more interested in where the camera was then getting down.
Just got home from Miami, phew. Gui Boratto was fucking amazing. Just pure art. Art Department was sooo good... and Tale of Us. Richie Hawtin threw down an incredible high energy set on Friday, blew me away. Drumcode party was awesome despite the lineup change. Tried to make it through the Cocoon party but was so pissed when Maetrik didn't show up that I left, ran into Sven Vath on the way out.
First WMC experience a success, hope to make it next year. Great time.
Wow. Talk about a party. This weekend just moved close to the top. Traveled all the way from the bay area and cannot wait to go back next year. A couple highlights:
Hard Miami to kick things off Thursday was great.
Loved seeing Richie for the first time.
Magda became one of my new favorites.
2manydjs remained one of my favorites.
Justice was Justice.
The Carl Cox tent was massively insane.
The Sasha afterparty was exceptional.
Those memories will bring me back for next year. If anyone has any specific questions about cost/venue/etc, feel free to ask. Last years thread gave me most of the info I needed to make this a successful trip and would love to return the favor for anyone interested in this event.
sure, how much money did you spend???
Short answer, a lot.
Long answer:
Went into the weekend with the intentions of it being a one time thing and that if something could make the trip better, it was paid for without hesitation.
200 for a spot in a southbeach condo
90 for a shuttle service to and from the event
100 for after parties
300 for the ticket
200 spent inside the festival
100 on goodies
300 on food/drinks not at the festival
Flight was free with miles.
So about 1500 to have a killer time. The nice part was that the after parties, condo, flight, and ticket can be purchased way ahead of time and when the funds are available. The rest is all cash that you can pinch if need be. For example, I opted for roughly twenty $5 waters instead of filling up a camel back in the bathroom sink. Plan ahead, save some money, and use that tax return. It was worth every penny for me.
