or they could be looking to move coachella here if the shit keeps selling out. Why not move it to a bigger space with more room? 75K people would not feel so bad if we weren't all crammed onto the polo fields. they'd probably up attended to 100K or more.

All just speculation of course, but if the park isn't being completed for 5-10 years, this is totally plausible.

GV still has a lease 8-10 years into the future for the Polo grounds. Plus dropping prices for Chella tix seem to indicate demand and capcity are in line with one another.

I'm sure UK/Euro have huge music festival months apart that compliment rather than cannibilize ticket sales. They do have to have a different identity though...

BREAKING: GOLDENVOICE NEAR DEAL FOR FEST
AEG Live subsidiary Goldenvoice, known for the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and Stagecoach country music fest, is putting the final touches to a deal that will bring a multiday festival to the Great Park in Irvine, Calif.

Goldenvoice CEO Paul Tollett told Pollstar the Orange County Great Park directors gave Goldenvoice a “vote of confidence” March 17, but nobody has signed on the dotted line just yet. It’s a little early in the game. If Goldenvoice is looking at a festival like Coachella, or something completely different, it's hard to say. According to Tollett, Goldenvoice will begin the creative process in the weeks and months to come.
“I can see Russia from my house,” Tollett said. “I’m pretty terrified. No. I am terrified as Putin rears his head.”
Goldenvoice will pay the Great Park a flat fee of $750,000 per year as well as $3 per person for paid attendance between 150,000 and 299,000 per year, according to the Orange County Register. The payment climbs to $5 per head for attendance between 300,000 and 500,000. Goldenvoice has agreed to produce one to five events per year and contribute to improvements to the park.
Live Nation and C3 were among the companies also bidding for the contract.

All the other shit that needs to be built has nothing to do with throwing a music festival, all they need is a big grass area to throw this and it doesn't take 5 years to lay down fresh grass. I think something will happen within the next year or so. This is all speculation, but I don't think anything is 5 years away.

its going to be at least 5 years.... its not even close to being finished. Those in the park concerts are free and require very little attention. GV has been hired to throw multiday music festivals. And the Farmers Market is there every weekend. If they jump the gun early its because they need an extra source of revenue. But from what ive heard they want the Great Park complete before they start bringing in some serious attendance.

There have been rumors for years the land that Wild Rivers/Verizon Amp are on would be redeveloped for housing and the water park and amp rebuilt at the Great Park. I for one would love a much more modern amp (like Cricket Wireless in Chula) than crummy old Irvine Meadows. I havent heard much about this in the last few years though and as we all now housing development has slowed down...

that walk from the gates is just brutal, though. especially at the end after hours of drinking. and don't get me started on the hill, well at least with my lungs. glad i mostly got seats in the lower level. love the looks i get when using the courtesy cart to get to and from the gate to the seats, too.
