Whoa, I had never heard that before. Fuckin brutal.

And yes, Mineral is insanely depressing...I love it.

And i was a pretty big fan of AFI up through The Art of Drowning, really. They were an amazing live band back in the day too.

Even though it doesn't really sound like it, that Cursed track made me want to look up As The Sun Sets, it's been a whiiiiile since I listened to this

You're welcome! I'm trying to make this entertaining/educational. I'm realizing that up until like 5 or 6 years ago this kind of music was more than 50% of the music I listened to.

drinkey, loving everything you've thrown on here thus far.

i was actually going to post early afi on here today, i have been beaten to it.

some more stuff i have recently found and have gotten to re-love again.

piebald (yea, they went pop punk, not many people know they were noisy hardcore before they went that way)

coalesce (wait for the 6 degrees)

    to

    the get up kids

    into

    reggie and the full effect

(following the career of james dewees, he had minor stints in my chemical romance, new found glory, and leathermouth)

    onward with the music.

    misery signals

fear before the march of flames

e-town concrete (jersey hardcore/rap, odd mix, but i can't get over them)

suicidal tendencies (dunno if anyone's posted this yet, i don't remember seeing it though. i can thank tony hawk for showing me these guys when i was 14-15)

    1208

    the (international) noise conspiracy

dead kennedys (surprised they're missing as well)

Good stuff, number of things there I was planning on touching upon!

And WOW, so far the find of the thread is Moss Icon. their second LP It Disappears is fucking amazing! I'll be diving into Lyburnum Wits End Liberation Fly immediately afterward. I highly recommend other people check these guys out.

Thanks so much for that redsurf!

Yeah, get the 3 records before it. Same overly crunchy guitar tunes, same jokes, etc.

If we were being that lax about the topic I would have blanketed this motherfucker with Nation of Ulysses videos by now.

A few more bands that fall into the post-hardcore/emo category:

    Small Brown Bike

Appleseed Cast (Lower Level Owls Vol 1 & 2 were by far their best albums).

There was also this band called The Casket Lottery that ruled hard, but I can't find any non-shitty, non-live youtubes. Has anyone heard them?

I'm aware of The Appleseed Cast and the Casket lottery, but never listened to them. i did just find out that the drummer for the Casket Lottery joined The Appleseed Cast though, haha. They also noted for having toured with Small brown Bike sveral times.

Speaking of which, i am a huge Small brown Bike Fan. i only got to see them once, opening for Sparta, and they were great.

    Couple of my favorite tracks:

sorry, didn't see 'no punk allowed', i did see that though. i was under the assumption that hardcore fell in the punk family (yea, threw in a few metal songs here and there, it happens when you touch on this kind of music, there's a thin line that borders the two)

Okay, so this thread is pretty retarded if we don't include RITES OF SPRING. ROS were a Washington, DC band that existed for only a couple of years, released one LP and one EP, and are credited as pretty much inventing emo. Their music is loud and awesome. After they broke up, half the band joined Fugazi.

Nation of Ulysses is more than appropriate for this thread.

EDIT: BUT, looking thetello's last string of videos, let's go ahead and be a bit careful that this thread doesn't just get flooded with every random punk band. 1208 is certainly straight up skate punk. I'm also pretty sure I wouldn't describe Dead kennedys as hardcore, but that could be argued.

I've always thought those obtuse/noisy intros for each song probably should have been a trend that caught on a little bit more.

edit: In response to Nation of Ulysses that is...

In terms of Fugazi, I've always held off on checking out The Argument...should i reconsider?

No reason to hold off on The Argument. It's less abrasive than their previous work but it's an excellent album.

Here is Capsule, always thought they kind of sound like a stripped down version of These Arms Are Snakes. If you are not familiar with them, check out their debut album, Blue, it's great. New album coming out soon and will be in LA in April.

ooooohhhhhh. these arms are snakes. I saw them open for engine down and my girlfriend at the time called them "the vacuum cleaners" because of the indiscernible lyrics and music that was being blasted at her. I loved This is meant to hurt you and Oxeneers, Easter was OK, and Tail Swallower and Dove was shit. Their singer changed the way he sang on that last album and it just didn't work out for them; musically the album didn't compare to either of their first releases too.
