Anyone here ever checked out Baptists' before? They are a Vancouver based band, but Southern Lord released their debut album earlier this year and I just got around to listening to it. Holy shit. It is one of the most brutally heavy, pummelling, break-neck albums I have listened to in quite a while. My friend who plays in a couple hardcore bands said they basically sound like a Cursed cover-band, but that it doesn't matter because they are so good. (I have never listened to Cursed, but I figured a few of you in here would know them).

Anyways, listen to this fucking Baptists album. Just listen to it.

    !!!

    Coming soon.
A release date and Pre-ordering info will be announced shortly.

Converge "Live at the BBC" was recorded live by Simon Askew in the historic Studio MV4 at Maida Vaile Studios at the BBC in London, August 2010. Studio MV4 is the previous home to the legendary John Peel sessions, which birthed legendary recordings from artists like New Order, The Cure, Carcass, Napalm Death and countless others.

The recording boasts live in the studio renditions of "Dark Horse", "Axe To Fall", "Damages", as well as a rare, electrified version of "Hanging Moon" (the original "You Fail Me" recording features only acoustic guitars).

Special thanks to Epitaph Records, Tschepitz & Nomads of Prague, and Daniel Carter & The BBC for making this recording a reality.

I saw that, but to be honest, a 4 song live ep isn't really that exciting.

This more on the cheesier side of metalcore than I typically listen to nowadays, but I'm really enjoying Everything In Slow Motion's new album Phoenix. Nice chunky riffs, great tone in the lead guitars, and I'm digging the back and forth interplay of the singing and screaming.

Great album and I really like the progression on the new four song EP "Spring Songs". Wish it was longer though.

Josh Scogin, most recently of The Chariot, and once upon a time of Norma Jean, has been teasing a new band as-of-late. Today, Scogin has officially unveiled his new project, '68. A live song from the band can be heard below:

    haha....thumbs up for Russian Circles

Strangest Display of Affection From a Fan
GC: We were playing Moscow, and it was the tightest show. The crowd was crazy. And this girl kept climbing onto the stage and hugging my leg—I’m trying to walk and she's just bear hugging me. I was wearing these really tall Doc Martens boots, and she was just licking it up and down. I'm just like, “Holy shit, this is ridiculous.” So I looked at her, and she opened her mouth, and I just spit in it. She was so down. Eventually, security had to pull her away.

KM: Her boyfriend was in the opening band and he didn’t even care.

Flashback to a time when punk rock was considered a "threat to society." Seems kind of an alien concept in this day and age - good watch.

Soooooooooooo I highly highly recommend Bl'ast! and their album blood! For a lack of a better word the album is a complete blast! Really reminds me of a really polished minor threat. I feel like there has been an amazing revival in punk and all its forms and I have really enjoyed alot of these new albums. However this is the first one that floored me and has been in constant repeat. Also listened to Le Dispute's new album and it was also really impressive. I wish my fucking friends would get over this down tempo electronic shit and realize the amazing resurgence of this scene.

Bl'ast was actually contemporary with Minor Threat. They formed in 1981 and were on SST records for the duration of their career. The recording that you probably heard, Blood, is stuff they did in the 80s but hadn't but out until just now. I hear they're working on new material, and if they can match up with the old stuff it should be pretty damn good.

No matter what they call that Bl'ast album, it's an old album re released. Okay, it may be from different recordings, remastered, whatever, but it's still "It's in my Blood". Same songs. I've been listening to it since 1989. Literally. Not that there's anything wrong with that. And, at the time, everyone was in agreement that they were a total Black Flag ripoff. Not that there's anything wrong with that, either. I liked it then, I like it now.

I'm gonna retract that last comment, kind of. Same songs, but now that I've listened with some headphones and some focus, whatever's "new", recording, mastering, Blood! is way cleaner and heavier, it sounds great. I definitely remember it having that crappy SST/Spot production, not anymore. Awesome.

What the fuck is wrong with this band? I understand wanting to go crazy and encouraging chaos… but these guys take it too far. They are just being straight up assholes and disrespecting the venues. Who the fuck in their right mind would book this band for a show?

Interesting interview from Mineral at http://www.altpress.com/features/ent...s_simpson_2014

Jim Adkins from Jimmy Eat World was in Austin for the Austin City Limits festival back in October, and I went and had coffee with him. He was telling me how it was the 20-year anniversary of Jimmy Eat World, and how big a deal it was. I can only imagine—they’ve actually been working this whole time, fairly nonstop. It’s definitely different than Mineral. But it just got me thinking.

Then Jim called me in January and presented an idea where he wanted to do a 20th anniversary show in LA in the summer for Jimmy Eat World and invite a bunch of bands they used to play with in the early days.
They later say the JEW show is pushed back to the fall and they can't play it because of their tour. Anyone know anything about this? I wonder if American Football will play a west coast date at it? the interview hints at the possibility of Boys Life which would be fantastic.
