I guess this is as good of a time as any to say this... but David Comes To Life really bummed me it. It really should have been better than it was. It was a major letdown after how phenomenal The Chemistry of Common Life is.

I came to Fucked Up late in the piece and only have David.. so it looks like I need to backtrack a little before I see them next month

The crazy level of craft that went into it is just astounding and that they turned these super-dense tracks into something very listenable and almost catchy just makes my jaw drop.
Heh, I was just listening to this the other day as well. I still think it's really good. 'Twice Born' RULES.

My problem with Fucked Up is that in so many of their songs (especially on David Comes to Life) there's no variation in Damien's voice, it's all screaming/growling. I understand that this is how a lot of hardcore singers sing - but I just wish he would drop it every once in a while and sing/talk/whisper. If he did that, then they might be one of my favorite bands.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

He says he wishes he has more range and has frequently pushed the band to find a vocalist who could do more, but they like to work with what he does. He really wants them to have a full-time female vocalist.

I delivered 3 Hurt points between Zhi Peng’s henchman’s eyes.

My problem with David... (which I really like) is I don't think the production shows how badass the band is. They are seriously locked in and and raging on stage as Damian does his thing in the crowd. In short, turn the guitar up in the mix.

    Ok, that's fair.

They put on an awesome show when I saw them two years ago.

I agree with this completely. I actually never got through the whole album in one sitting. I would listen to 40 minutes of it, and then come back for the last 30 minutes or so. It never really grew on me either, bummer. Chemistry is still one of my favorite Hardcore albums of the last 3-4 years.

This 4th full length takes the tempo down a lot more for the most part - though there are still bursts of speed throughout. It's much sludgier than normal, and it's a very welcome change. Super solid record!
I heard about this when they released it & even wanted to go check it out live (I believe they played at The Echo), but decided not to (maybe finals? idk).
Anyway, I'm definitely into His Hero Is Gone more so than Tragedy, but that's not to say Tragedy isn't good.

Saw Converge & Old Man Gloom last night. The power and pure heaviness of OMG and the intensity of Converge was truly impressive.

The complete (unreleased) documentary about the final Black Flag tour, shot by a pro film crew who followed the band. Legend is that Ginn saw the video once at its premiere and said that it would never screen again. I love you, Ginn, but I can't wait for it to finish loading over here so I can watch it.

    Black Flag lineup:

    Greg Ginn - Guitar
    Henry Rollins - Vocals
    Anthony Martinez - Drums
    C'el Revuelta - Bass

Greg Ginn has described this as the best live lineup that Black Flag ever had.

Holy shit, totally watching this. I like how there's two versions of Black Flag playing shows this year.

There's ever only one Black Flag, and that's the version with Greg Ginn. All the other guys can rightfully say they took part, and that they participated in those songs, but Ginn wrote them, he was the only one around the whole time, he was the one who made them sound the way they did.

I'm excited to see what Flag does with their history show, but I'm much much more excited for Ginn and Ron Reyes to write new Black Flag music. It's the perfect time for them to be back, and Ginn's past few releases have been hard as hell.

The documentary, by the way, is awesome. I just watched it, and the video of Black Flag is killer, but the video of Gone is even better. Some of those performances are insane, and it's so killer that they played on sidewalks in front of record stores.

It's been there from the beginning.. the weak Britpop headliners Friday; the rumors that DP was gonna play, that it was a done deal, then all of a sudden 'oops, no, not gonna happen'; and now the new album. It's all so obvious.

Defeater have announced that mastering is completed on their new album!!! 2011's Empty Days and Sleepless Nights was one of my favorite hardcore records in years, and Travels was really good as well.
