    Default Atlanta Locals

    Not Hotlanta!

Just wondering if there are others, like myself, who live in or around the Atlanta area. I go to a lot of shows in the area but I'm always looking for more, as well as more people to enjoy them with.

    yay or nay?

Anyone else going to either of these shows?

    3/21 - Trentemoller @ The Masquerade
    3/24 - Royksopp @ The Masquerade

If you didn't make it out to Sasha on Friday you missed a great time!

    ouch!

There's a Debra Jackson in every state. Surprisingly, we wear shoes in Atlanta and eat foods other than watermelon!

Stego - I'd be interested to hear about your shitty experience at the Masquerade. While it isn't one of the nicest venues in town it sure has been bringing the best acts of late.

pinguinotonto - Welcome! I've only been in town a couple years (moved from Boulder) but I'm starting to like this place and would love to catch a show with some boardies sometime. Maybe we rally for Royksopp?

Sadly, that's pretty accurate. It's too bad you had such a crap time because it's normally a wonderful time at a run-of-the-mill venue. I'd chalk it up as them being overwhelmed for NYE and give it another shot if you're in town - just go in knowing the type of douches you may have to deal with and understand they are everywhere, even the Tabernacle (way more cops at Tabernacle).

Yea, never had a chance. A coworker of mine was on there within an hour and couldn't find anything.

Stego - The Quad is similar to the Masquerade but a little larger I'd say. There are a couple different levels and multiple bars throughout. I've only been to the Sasha show a few weeks back but it was a great time. There's a huge patio area in the back with comfy seating and another bar.

Hello Atlanta folks. I'm going to be moving there for work starting at the end of June and I'll be living there until the end of September. I've lived in LA for almost five years now so I'm pretty spoiled with the music scene.

Can you make a list of the good venues and places to see shows? That'd be cool. I appreciate all feedback and am looking forward to this summer in HOTLANTA.

HOTLANTA is right. Who in their right mind moves here for those months alone??? I understand it's work but still..

"Good venues" and "Places to see shows" are two different things here in Atlanta.

The Tabernacle and The Fox are probably the two nicest venues in Atlanta. That being said, their good shows are few and far between....also expensive.

The Quad on Spring St and The Masquerade on North Ave have been pulling in the best talent lately. There's also smaller places like The Drunken Unicorn, 529, Apache Cafe and Soundtable. Check them out and enjoy your time here, it'll be a sweaty-balls Summer!

That's a cool little venue. It's in the back of a bar/restaurant that has great beer and burgers. It's real intimate so you're right there with the band. I sat backstage with Rainmachine for an hour or so last time I was there.

The 40 Watt is great, right in downtown Athens. I've seen a bunch of shows there, and it gets some bands that decide not to play Atlanta. It also plays host to a fair amount of comedy shows. Patton Oswalt did two nights there last August. I don't know where you're living, but I'm north of the city and Athens is an easy 90-minute drive.

90 minutes is a lot. although, i think i might be able to manage it on that particular date.

I'm going to be staying in Buckhead...don't know much about it except that it's apparently the "ritzy" part of town. Hopefully it's easily accessible to downtown ATL - if that's even where I really want to be? Perhaps you can weigh in on that, Roberto?

    I appreciate the feedback.

Buckhead is close to downtown – 10 minutes, maybe, if there's no traffic, but that can be a pretty big if. The Buckhead Theater can get some decent shows, but they're infrequent. Guided by Voices played there on their reunion tour, but the most notable thing on the calendar right now is Superchunk/The Dodos/Times New Viking in September.

Anyway, it's a decent place to stay – you're close to downtown without being in downtown, and there's still a fair amount to do out that way.

    That's sooo exciting I think!

Animal Collective is a must . All of these venues are going to be a decent cab ride or Marta (local public transit) depending on where you live in Buckhead.
