Phish Summer 2011

Just scored a single seat in F2 row 9 five minutes ago. This will be my first phish experience.

Damn, that sucks. Though, Seeing PHISH from afar isn't all that bad. I once had lawn for a sold out show at Alpine Valley Amp. in WI '00 and through the entire show, I couldnt even see the stage. You'll gain a greater appreciation of the magic Chris Kuroda can work with the lights.

That was easier than expected. Got K1 RW15. I guess this will be my first Phish show. OSL will be my second if they impress and/or theres not a decent alternative on at the same time.

On second I attempt pulled a pair in Q1 and bought those, then a friend landed a pair in L3, so that's where I'll be. Good enough for me.

I'm jealous of you guys and I'm still peeved that I have to go to OSL to see PHISH in the SF Bay. There is still hope for an OSL night show with PHISH at the Bill Graham Civic on the 13th. However, PHISH is in Chicago on the 15th, so I'm not sure how likely it is they hang around in SF to play that second show.

This. And during the No Age/Sonic Youth/Pavement show, it seemed like the bands were rushed to be finished quickly. But I guess that's just business.

The quality/atmosphere of the shows there are always second to none don't get me wrong. It's just the process leading up to the band taking the stage that bothers me. But that's from me never having a subscription or the cash to buy the auctioned seats. One day...

Wait til you see Radiohead there. You'll sing a totally different tune.

Yea Phish in Denver (well Commerce City) and the venue is so big and 3 nights I might just get to see them this year .... yea .... cr****

I put in my order for Sunday night. They say Denver is the last city on the tour and sunday is the last night. Should make for a good party. I hate where you pay them up front and you still don't know if you are getting tickets. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... cr****

SOLID. I know it's not their finest work, but Free is the first Phish song I heard when I was in high school and my friend had this random mixtape in his car. It brings back fond memories, and really shows that aside from being a jam band that Phish can also write a great 3 minute rock song.

Free definitely rocks. I'm down with all of Billy Breathes, it's my favorite PHISH album.

I downloaded yesterday's show, but haven't listened to it yet. However, based on set lists alone, these past 2 shows have been pretty damn good.

Surprised Golgi Apparatus hasn't made an appearance yet, even if it's only been a few nights. That's one of their most fun live songs.

Oh man, it's been 11 years and 11 shows since I last heard Golgi Apparatus live.

Of the songs I have yet to hear live, I'm hoping to hear Timber (Jerry) at OSL.

Ha! They opened with Golgi when I saw them for the first time at Shoreline in '09.

And they played it during the first set of Festival 8 in Indio that year (which, btw, why weren't you there?).

I wasn't at Festival 8 because I was living in Seattle at the time and my wife is not a phan, so there was no way that trip was going pass through committee I've actually never done a PHISH festival. I've camped onsite for shows over the course of 2-3 days and I went to Halloween 1998 (Velvet Underground's Loaded) in Vegas, but never a festival.

Fun fact, from 1998 onward, I attended every show at Shoreline until 2009. Luckily, I was at the Gorge for the shows following Mt. View.

First Tube is such a blistering opener and No Quarter is pretty damn cool.

Between the two nights, n1 seems much better. The first set features some classic shredage, and then the second set opens up with some classic psychedelic passages coming out of After Midnight and Drowned. Its nice to hear After Midnight jammed out for the first time in who knows how long (Big Cypress?).


Bummer about the second night is that although the set looks stacked, none of the songs were jammed to their full potential. Carini and Piper are both 6 minutes, and Ghost is only like 8 minutes.


Hope the next show brings back more of that Bethel magic!
