I worked the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education benefit last year. I saw his sound check and walked pass him back stage before he went on. I usually don't get starstruck but that was a bit surreal. The guy is a flawless performer & outstanding humanitarian. I'm all for a headlining spot for him. As long as I hear Benny & the Jets that is.

When he played The Bridge School benefit last year as part of T Bone Burnett's show I started walking out to get some food and stopped in my tracks. His new stuff sounded like the Elton of the early 70s - great songs, played with heart and sincerity. I was stunned that he still had it in him. He could definitely headline Coachella if he chose to present himself as a musician, not as a clown act.

When I saw him last month, I was actually shocked at how powerful his voice and his stage presence are.

whats ur take on it though...?? obviously its a long shot, and unless this was a deal set in stone before it sold out, the majority of people believe there will be no adds (why spend more money...?)

but i fail to see any name on the lineup this year that screams $$$$$, and an earlier post from a somewhat reliable b member mentioned something in relation to a 'Prince' kinda year.

and as far as Elton's tour goes... no west coast dates and the one just added this morning suggests he's inching closer to california the week of.

I would watch Elton John if he headlined Coachella. However, Goldenvoice already booked 3 headliners - so it's just not going to happen. I don't really think 2008 is a good comparison. Kings of Leon is much much much bigger than was Portishead.

Not really. Big acts tour during warm weather. It's bound to happen that one starts scheduling West Coast dates near Coachella weekend. Happens every year, and gets people's hopes up, but there has never been an instance where the headliners have changed (Prince included).
