Foster the Mainstream
"Well, that's just like, you know... your opinion, man"
Another great example where enough commercial backing can make anyone a pop rock star.
"How long will this last, this delicious feeling of being alive, of having penetrated the veil which hides beauty and the wonders of celestial vistas? It doesn't matter, as there can be nothing but gratitude for even a glimpse of what exists for those who can become open to it."
The lead singer has some awkward body and hand motions.
maybe it's just me, but i get a kings of leon vibe from this band.

They are both very mainstream bands and a lot of people hate them, but musically they sound nothing alike
sure hope they end up like Kings of Leon.
I happened to turn on SNL in the middle of them playing 'Pumped Up Kicks' and I thought it sounded horrible/looked awkward as shit with the moving and hand motions. I've never been a fan of their album or their live show, but that was just all bad.

I'm taking my nieces to FTP show on Sunday in Pomona. They were horrified the other day when their mother started whistling the tune. That's the kiss of death to a 16yo.

One of my co workers was listening to the album and another co worker walked by and remarked that it reminded them of Ke$ha.

I thought Torches was a pretty solid album. Talent wise, I don't think they should be billed as high as MGMT or Mumford. But if they're basing it off popularity, yeah they're going to be billed pretty high. It's basically the catchiest song about shooting kids I've ever heard.
I used to live in Portland and between Pumped Up Kicks and Helena Beat they had the number one requested song locked up for about five months on the big indie/alternative station there. Maybe they still do, as Portland loves that band.
Personally I love them and Torches is a surprisingly great album. I didn't expect much from them beyond Pumped Up but I streamed their Coachella set and liked it, then the first time I played Torches I was instantly into it. I saw them at Outside Lands this year and it was probably my favorite show of the weekend. Their stuff translates well live and there was some high energy dancing going on in the middle of the afternoon. Plus they packed that stage all the way to the back and up the sides of hills. Now they sell out all their shows and are getting huge. I'm totally down for that.
I grew up in a rural farm town in North Dakota that has its share of people crashing their SUV meth labs into bridges, drunks who demand my grade school lunch lady suck their cocks, and brother on brother murderers. There was this dude a few years ahead of me who in high school decked himself in all Confederate gear and drove a huge red pickup with a Confederate flag in the back window. He wasn't the only one in my town to do this. Anyway, about a month ago he posted the Pumped Up Kicks lyrics as his Facebook status. Either he thinks the song is about shooting black people, or it really is permeating into all parts of culture ala a band like Kings of Leon. It doesn't bother me, I still enjoy the fuck out of the music.
I must have looked as if I were a diseased creature. Covered in cigarette cartons like bird shit, smeary colored face, drinking wine out of a pair of sweat pants. A dead baby hung off the side of my head -- crying to get high on smokes and glue.

Foster the People- best new band of 2011. what more can i say. Time to listen to Torches before i go to bed
From what I've read, the lead singer is the songwriter, and he's just really good at writing songs. I heard pumped up kicks earlier this year and it had literally about 500,000 views on youtube. I just checked recently at almost 40 million. I'm glad I caught them live before they blew up.
I do like them, and I think the songwriter is extremely talented. The album has like 7 songs on it that could be singles. But I have to say I am a bit sick of them. Simply because they are everywhere and they are played in every mall and every commercial . . . and I think its kind of back fired. Because his songwriting is so strong, that they didnt really need the commercial push that they got . . . so I think they actually got TOO big and it pushed them into annoying status.
They made a great album though and literally skyrocketed to fame. I'm envious of them, but also not . . . because If I was in his shoes I'd have no idea what I'd do for a next album. An album with hit after hit after hit is hard to follow up.
Catchy tunes for sure.
Pumped Up Kicks sounds like a poppier Peter, Bjorn and John song.
I keep seeing Foster the People popping up in rumors, would GV book an act that was just there this year?
