People on atease have been responding to the critics of last night's show with comments like "you want oldies? Go see the Stones" and "at least Radiohead is still vital now and still making great music."

No, I don't want an all "oldies" set or a "hits" set. I'm fine with hearing new material and them working them out live. All I ask is for a little balance, man. The Dallas, Glendale, and San Jose shows (the 3 best setlists of this tour imho) all featured plenty of new material, but also some incredible old gems as well.

I like The King of Limbs well enough, I really do. But The Daily Mail, Staircase, and Supercollider are astonishingly average tunes. And to hear all of them in one show PLUS the entire new album PLUS Identikit is just massive new material overkill.

I'm glad that I saw them on the In Rainbows tour because that is my favorite album of theirs. But, I literally wanted to stab my eyes out when they played "Optimistic"

I was the SB Bowl. I thought the performance was solid, but the setlist left much to be desired. It was bittersweet for me, because it was by far the closest I have ever been and we had a great view the entire time in the pit. I think Thom knew he was disappointing the crowd as he said "Just 1 more..." at least 2-3 times. And he was smirking sheepishly when he said it. In one respect, it's cool that they played what THEY wanted to play and what THEY were into at the moment (Thom said something like "We're going to play songs WE'RE into right now since this is a smaller gig") and that made it a little more intimate. Also, I guess one could argue if you are going to play a bunch of stuff you know the majority of the crowd won't be totally psyched about, then do it when you play in front of 4,500 people and not 20,000-40,000 people. That said, it was still a good show and way better than any other gig I've seen lately. They also could have squeezed 1-2 more songs before the 10pm curfew and I thought for sure they would give fans ever bit of joy they could considering the all the rain. Oh well, glad I was there and not sitting at home wondering what it would've been like.

The Santa Barbara show was fine. The new stuff all sounded good and if one of the few old songs I get is Planet Telex I don't really care what the rest of the set is. And I know it's not EXACTLY the same thing, but it's not dissimilar to Neil Young playing majority new material and alienating fans on his old tours, and nowadays people praise that move. Whatever, I'm not complaining, show was good. The festival setlist tonight will be where the hits are.

The thing is, Neil Young is known for doing that. Sonic Youth was known for doing that. So if you pay any attention at all to past setlists, you know what you're in for. This was just out of left field.

Anyways, moving on. Interested to see what they play tonight.

After Saturday they have my full attention.
Everything people said about the KOL material translating well live was spot on.
