Default ~~ Official 2011 Lineup Approval Rating ~~ FEBRUARY VERSION

Please vote in the FEBRUARY version of the Official Coachella 2011 Lineup Approval Rating

How does the approval rating of the lineup change over time? That’s the question we’ll answer with the same poll asked over the next few months. Scale is 1 – 5, and I will publish the weighted average in each of the subsequent polls.

The opening approval rating for Jan 2011 is 3.9 , down from 4.6 a year earlier and 4.0 in 2009.

    Has it improved for you?

    Have you given up?

Have you discovered more gems than you thought you would?

Or less than you would have hoped?

Friday and Sunday will be full of conflict, but my Saturday should be easy breezy. There is so much left to explore too.

What I find most surprising here is that post-fest 2010 was more positive than post-fest 2009. I remember post-2009 being a giant cuddle puddle here, while post-2010 was a giant bitchfest.

I have mixed feelings about this year! I just finished listening to multiple tracks from all of the artists via Youtube!

I love Coachella for the eclectic lineup that it usually has. This year seems to be more narrow in scope. Lots of Electronica ( love it), a good variety of off the wall stuff with some big headliners (fun to explore and learn).

But it's odd that there are allot of indie groups that remind me of Jonsi last year. Lots of slow tunes that reminds me of my parents music from the 50's and 60's that put me to sleep before Rock and Roll became big. After the schedule comes out I have a feeling I'll be exploring less and spending more time in the Sahara tent and making special treks to the other venues for a specific act.

But no matter what, I'll be loving Coachella!

True, but I don't recall any complaining about the actual lineup/performers after 2010 (with the exception of Gorillaz haters). The complaints were focused on the crowds, poor organization, etc.

First, Playa, I love this Poll. You rock.

Second, Coachella is so amazing year after year that i can't help but give this lineup an average rating. To be honest, it's actually less than average. Which is interesting because they have more bands than ever, but arguably the weakest headliners, a decent, but not overwhelming undercard, and few rare acts. It's the worst since '05 easily. I love Coachella and there are many wonderful reasons to go this year, which is why I'm going and will have a blast. But there are very few "Holy Shit, they're playing?" acts this year. Nevertheless, I will have more time to hang out with friends, enjoy the polo fields and treat this year more as a vacation instead of running around trying to catch all the acts I need to see. Because of this, and many other wonderful reasons, I may actually have more fun this year, despite not being overwhelmed with the lineup.

no, i wasnt there in '05. And of course, no one has been in '11. I'm simply comparing the two posters and my own personal impressions of them. I'm not talking about the experience, merely the bands on the poster. In my biased opinion, all the lineups since '05 are more appealing to me. That's all i'm trying to say. I thought it was relevant here in that this is a lineup approval rating thread.

I was there in 2005 and will say it was def the weakest of the lineups of all the Coachella's I've attended.

I'm kinda worried about 2012 because between 2010 and 2011 pretty much most of my favorite bands have been covered.

Great thread. I have to say, when the lineup initially came out, I was slightly disappointed. However, that was mostly because I was not familiar with a lot of the acts. The headliners still arent great, imo. Although, Im about 80% through researching all the Coachella artists right now, and I must say, GV did a much better job than I originally thought. Ive discovered a lot of great acts, and with the addition of the Pure Filth stage, the electronic lineup is stacked this year.
