How to get a 2-day pass

I'm sure people have mentioned this already but I feel people aren't recognizing just how easy it's going to be to get tickets Friday night if you hang out by an exit after Caifanes's set finishes with $100 cash on you. Obviously plenty of Caifanes fans are going to stick around the weekend, but given the dynamics (one of the biggest Mexican rock bands ever, reunion after 15-year absence, only U.S. date scheduled, people being forced to buy 3-day passes) there are going to be hundreds if not thousands of people heading for home Friday night that would be happy to part ways with their wristband for some extra cash.

Anecdotally it sounds like it was doable to find a Jay-Z fan willing to resell last year. Back in '04 this was how I got a Sunday ticket for $20 from a departing Radiohead fan (although back then you could buy single-day tickets, so never was sure why that person bought and changed their mind).

Getting the wristbands off and then back on is going to be the biggest challenge, and the main reason why if I didn't have tickets I'd err on the side of caution and get tickets ahead of time (well that and I'm not missing Friday). BUT, if you're an unlucky SoCaler that didn't get tickets and don't wanna pay the scalper mark-up, I'd recommend asking your friends to be on the lookout at the end of Friday and see if there's any skinny Caifanes fans looking like they're on their way home.

There's no way I would risk it. Also you can't get within 1 mile of the festival without a wristband on. Maybe hang out at a gas station near I-10. Again not worth the risk especially if the Daft Punk rumors are true.

I dont think people are realizing that wristbands cannot be taken off. I was appalled last year with the GV staff allowing people with torn/cut/re-glued wristbands into the festival. Every other major festival says CLEARLY: If your wristband is cut, you are FUCKED. Plain and simple. And if they think you're fucking with them, they wont hesitate to escort you away from the grounds. I've seen kids flip shit because they fucked up their wristband on the campgrounds of Bonnaroo, and cant get in on the second day. Sad, but seriously...

There isnt going to be a way to take off your wristband. I hope to GOD GV gets their shit together and hands out real wristbands to keep randoms from wandering in. Dont get me wrong, I think your hearts in the right place, thinking people will be able to pick up a ticket after the Mexican band fans leave... but if the wristbands are:

I agree that the actually exchanging of wristbands is going to be the biggest hurtle (and why I agree your best bet is taking care of this beforehand). But Coachella's never done the "most legit" version, and people have successfully exchanged their wristbands before. It's difficult, but not impossible. That's why I think your best bet (if you're not willing to pay scalper prices like I would be) is to wait and see if your friends can successfully get one for you, then come meet up Sat morning. Obviously that might not work for non-LA folks, but it's something to consider trying if you're shit out of luck otherwise.

I'm not saying it's going to filled with a majority of Mexicans, I'm saying there are certainly going to be some Caifanes fans who came exclusively for their only announced US show and that you have a pretty easy way of finding when and where they're going to be. If they're going to be as thorough with the wristbands as people say, then ya, this plan sucks, but I certainly don't remember them inspecting mine closely to make sure they weren't tampered with.

So I looked to see if Vive Latino tickets are still on sale and they still are. Not sure how long they've been on sale for, but according to wiki Foro Sol can hold 50,000. Considering single day tickets are ~41 bucks, and that concert's actually in Mexico, that definitely shoots some holes in the "Caifanes is responsible for the 6-day sell-out" theory.

That said, it still sounds like they're big enough and this show is rare enough, that there's bound to be Caifanes fans stateside that are dying to see them but aren't actually looking to spend the whole weekend out in the desert. For that matter, there's bound to be some Chemical Brothers fans or Kings of Leon fans that fall into that boat too. Do I think something like 2,000 out of the 75,000 are going to fall into one of those categories? Throw in the folks that find out they can't cut the heat or the crowds and wanna head home? Then thousands starts to sound plausible to me. And again, you know when and where to find them.

Maybe it won't work out, but I'm at least gonna give it a shot, see if I can help a friend or two of mine that wanted to make it but didn't get it together in time and aren't really looking to drop 600. Worth a shot at least.

If you really want to gamble admission to the festival and spending a hour fiddling with pliers and paperclips(all while clear headed) there's a tiny chance that it can be done. Bonnaroo forum talks about removing the black tube from cloth wristbands without cutting/ripping the fabric for display purposes. I also figured out 2 different to remove the plastic snap from the Coachella wristband without damaging the flat plastic in any way.

That said, 3 weeks is actually quite a long time for conterfeiters to work their magic. Computer chip or not.

That's fair. Not saying it'll be a huge proportion, but they're big enough that there's bound to be some tunnel-visioned fans that REALLY want to see them but aren't looking to deal with the things we all go through to spend three days in the desert. As long as the 3-day pass is the only option people have, there's always going to some subset of people that are only there for one thing but are forced to buy all three days.
