Decrying the headliner potential of any of the top 4 acts booked this year because you don't like them is fucking goofy. Billions of douchenozzles love kol, AF is amazing live, and had one of the biggest albums of 2010. Kanye had THE biggest album of 2010, and the Strokes are coming back after a 5 year album hiatus with a record that is critically acclaimed before it even comes out.

yea, they might draw in crowds and have a shit load of fans but a lot of crap music does. I'm not saying Kanye Or the strokes or AF are shit, I'm just saying yawwn. Nothing im gonna pee my pants about. The Headliner decisions that were made are just so standard, not that last year's headliners were better... I went cause i loved the subheadliners and the rest of the bill last year. After seeing the past of coachella being Prince, Paul Mc Cartney and Roger Waters..... I was hoping for a similar revelation of big awesomeness. I mean AF isn't really that hard to book, and would do better imo as a subheadliner. KOL, I do not have enough words to describe how shit this band is and fuck who ever booked them regardless if theyd sell tickets or not. Kanye I understand, dont like him but understand. Strokes are cool, just not very exciting for some reason.

i just don't understand how people can defend the headliners and the reasons they were chosen....it's obvious they just wanna sell tickets and wanna do it in the easiest fashion without spending too much moolah on actual music. However, I believe those tickets would have sold just as fast if they would have gone with some serious headliners... not sloppy leftovers and the whogivesafucks. that being said... i do enjoy the smaller print.

why is everyone saying Yeah Yeah Yeahs?

Isn't the title of the thread 'in 5 years'?.

They have already headlined a festival.. so, they are already headliner status...

Also, I'm pretty sure White Stripes and LCD Soundsystem will not reunite in a few years. I think they are both serious about not playing again anytime soon.

give it another decade and then check with them.

I agree with Grizzly Bear. IF they can keep the momentum of Veckatimest.. though that could be difficult.

While they have headlined a festival, it's Coachella we're talking about here. In '09, they were the 3rd act on the bill. I think people are saying in 5 years, they'll be the top billed act and close the main stage on one of the days.

    Pretty much.
Ween headlined Sasquatch. Hardly qualifies them to headline Coachella.

I definitely think Florence can headline after 2 more smash albums like Lungs. Her sophomore album should be here this year. If she has the same success, I bet she'll headline on her 3rd album tour.

Granted she is much more popular in England, but watching her Glastonbury performance with ~90,000 people in the audience was absolutely incredible.

I bet that within the next 5 years a Latin band will hold a headline spot. Who? I don't know but it will happen. Maybe Cafe Tacuva after an amazing new album.
(you'll agree with me after Caifanes)

Bands with potential over the next 5 years... Florence + the Machine, Vampire Weekend will happen soon. Later on we might see The Kills, Black Keys...

But in the next 5 years I would definitely want to see an At the Drive in reunion, Pearl Jam, Beastie Boys back on stage, perhaps Led Zeppelin and of course Daft Punk.

Young irish band with lots of potential. By Coachella 2011, they'll be on their third tour around the US for their debut album

as far as small print bands bound to play on larger stages/better set-times in the next 2 years I'd go with Cold Cave and Foals. Both have a unique, commercial sound - Cold Cave reminds me of Muse right after their first record.

Cage the Elephant has potential to play to a larger audience. I've seen them live twice and the lead singer has a ton of energy.

chopperdave, who do you think could headline in the next 5 years?

I'm standing pat that Silversun Pickups are headliner material (but only with another solid album)

Crystal Method - Sahara headline doesn't count were talking main stage. Divided by Night was SICK and collaborations were something I think well see more, hopefully they keep getting more popular.

The Third Twin - New and potentially a hit, well see.

Snoop Doggy Dog - Rap seems to be Coachella's new thing

Dr dre. - same thing / Detox

Damian Marley - This year will be his 3rd appearance if you include the songs he did with Stephen. He could do a 4th and do the mains stage justice.*imagines the smoke cloud*

Green Day - Sure why not? Maybe they could play some older songs and bring back some memories.

Pink Floyd - maybe if coachella donated more money to charity we might have a chance... lol. I forgot this wasnt a wishlist.

The point is to discuss bands on the rise of popularity that could possibly big enough 5 years from now that they will warrant headlining status. We are NOT mentioning bands or artists that could headline now. Cool? Cool.

    NO

Seriously, these talentless fucks aren't going anywhere. They are absolutely terrible. I don't mean that in a "They're music isn't my style" way, I mean that is in a "They're pretty fucking bad at making music" way.

Great job guys. You've completely grasped the concept of this thread. I think the Rolling Stones probably have a shot too, their arrow has been pointing up for years now.

I'm gonna check them out now, but this statement sets the bar impossibly high to me.
edit: ok... so they're not bad, but that comparison was pretty awful.

Crystal Method are not up and comers, they've been around for a while and won't ever headline. They are past their prime and if they ever did have headlining potential, they would've headlined by now.

I really don't know what's gonna happen with The Third Twin but I don't see much of a career with them. They're still headlining that Spanish festival over the likes of Delorean which is ridiculous and I'm curious to see footage of their set. I'm not expecting much, besides a few laughs from those losers.
