Gotye will probably have to work at a faster pace in making albums if he hopes to make it back in five years, headliner or not.

I'm curious where Metric would potentially be billed if they play in 2013. They just announced a headliner slot on the final day of the Ottawa Bluesfest.
Everything depends on the album that comes out in a few weeks, no one has even heard the single.
More like Mehtric amirite?

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros has a new album coming out, I'd say they can subheadline next year, and another 2 albums in 5 years? they seem to have potential...

I could see Queens of the Stone Age in the Black Keys spot from this year. As for Metric, I can't see them getting any higher billing than closing the outdoor. I love Metric but they arn't picking up the popularity. I wold say Metric would be on the second or third line.

I can totally see a Jay Z Beyonce headliner or even Destinys Child
Daft Punk
Soul wax (sub headliner)
Jack White
Seeing that the festival nearly sells out based on the brand alone (and probably will sell out without a lineup) I think the superstar acts like Beyonce and U2 would really just be a waste of money for Goldenvoice. The festival is selling out and really has no competition on the west coast, why bother when you can get Phoenix, Florence and the Machine, and Bon Iver and accomplish the same effect?
ALSO
Am I really underestimating the popularity of Gotye? Obviously that single is like a fucking plague but so was Pumped Up Kicks last year, what am I missing? Besides Gotye's set that is, that shit was crowded.

I think it's way too earlier to be throwng Gotye's name out as a possible future headliner, but I Will say this. There's a lot more to this guy than the single...he's a bit to the mainstream/cheesier side of the spectrum, but his latest album has a very impressive eclecticism to it. Almost Paul Weller like, which leads me to believe he'll have a very long and varied career.

Because they want people to keep coming back, acts like Rage Against The Machine, Radiohead, and Paul McCartney have made people want to come back. Acts like U2, Beyonce, and Daft Punk would keep them coming back. A couple years of headliners like Phoenix, Florence and Iver COULD make people lose interest. They want to sell tickets as fast as possible. This year they will probably sell out at pre-sale due to the fact that Radiohead and Dre & Snoop were big names and put on great shows. But if next years lineup isn't up to par then 2014 pre-sale may not be the same story. Just my opinion. Take all this with a grain of salt. Most people (including myself) just go for the experience anyway.
Okay It may of been a stretch to mention the avett brothers and temper trap. What other acts do you contest GIT (Guy.In.Tucson)?
Edit: Gotye has become one of the most famous musicians in the world in just 6 months due to SIUTK and he has the stuff to back it up. He won't be just a one hit wonder, which, of course, is a scary thought.

Also Paul Tollett will continue to book huge headliners because although Coachella is very much a business, I think he's made it clear through persuading bands to reunite, improving the grounds/experience every year, listening to complaints and fixing them, and continuing to produce diverse lineups (minus Sahara shitfest of 2012), that his main focus is the overall experience, not the profit. You can't tell me this dude is only in it for the money. This isn't Lolla.
Wiz Khalifa if his next album isn't like Rolling Papers.

is drake really that big? I know he's big in LA but is he really headliner worthy like Jay Z, Kanye, or Dre & friends?
He's popular enough to be headliner status, but Coachella wouldn't want to go that route. Seeing how Dre and Snoop's set turned out, the only way Drake would be in a position to "headline" if he were booked alongside Weezy, Minaj, Young Money, Ross, etc. I'm not sure if I'd approve of that, but I hope it doesn't happen.
