Can't believe only one person mentioned Foster the People. They have the potential to be huge depending on their follow-up(s) to Torches.

Also, anyone betting on/hoping for Pearl Jam next year? Isn't 2013 the 20th anniversary of their concert on the Polo Fields?

to be honest it must've been their coachella performance that I missed that angered everybody. I saw them at the Greek Theatre and it was incredible, but that could've been because it was their own show, not at a festival. but you never know, some bands completely change their live shows for the better.

A friend saw them at OSL last year and said the same thing, they just fall flat in the open air I guess, they don't have the energy for a festival. I would like to see them in some intimate venue but never again at Coachella.

Anyone think that since Coachella now = instant sellout, Goldenvoice won't need to worry about booking as many "popular"/"younger" acts, opening the door for some better bookings?

    2013: Pearl Jam/The Killers/_________

Let me clarify my Foster the People comment. I think they are now second-line status, possible headliner status after third album.

The Killers = better bookings? I think the younger acts are the better bookings. Why would coachella abandon a recipe that has led them to selling out two weekends in 4 hours?

The 2013 prediction was separate from my first thought and only because they have a new album coming out. I don't remember everything from this thread but there's not a lot of newer bands that have headliner potential IMO. So repeats seem likely to me.

The "21st Century" Doors w/ Eddie Vedder on vocals ASAP. I'm not too big on rock these days but if i had to pick a band with stage presence I'd pick The Mars Volta, Foo Fighters or maybe even Hop Chip to headline a night. As for EDM if it continues to appeal to more and more people every year I could see Justice, Nero, Chase & Status, and i guess Knife Party (if they got a live act going) headlining.

Portugal. The Man? Is this seriously being considered?

I could see Hot Chip headlining in a few years if they have two more highly successful albums. Maybe. Slight possibility.

NIN has always been capable of headlining (and in fact they already have) - I don't think that's the point.

1993 was the last time NIN was anything but a headliner. NIN might have actually sold more tickets than Bowie on that 1995 co-headlining tour tour of North American arenas since Bowie was shying away from hits.

    Phoenix
    LCD Soundsystem Reunion
    White Stripes Reunion
    Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Modest Mouse (should've headlined in 2000ish but with another "popular" album like their last 2 I think they could)
Mumford and Sons (inevitable after the sub?)
    The National
    TV On the Radio

Yup. I expect to see them headlining again in 2 more albums which should be around 2016 if they follow their 3 year release schedule.

let's assume AF puts out their next album in 2013 (to follow the 3 year release schedule). they headline 2014 right? i know it's really soon but does coachella just skip booking them one year during their tour in order to prolong the inevitable?

perhaps they do a few nights at the hollywood bowl in the spring a la coldplay this year?

Most of the bands listed in this thread really aren't headliner material. I could see Mumford with their next album but that would be ridiculous.

I still think Pearl Jam's waiting in the wings.

Arcade Fire has never released an album and then not played coachella immediately. If the next Arcade Fire album is as good as the previous 3 coachella would be crazy to pass on them. They just might be making the best music of any band out right now and I'm sure they're a cheaper headliner than some of the washed up potential headliners whos names get thrown around every year.

I like Arcade Fire but that band needs to go away for a while. A long while.
