Who Has Headliner Potential in 5 Years?

He's popular enough to be headliner status, but Coachella wouldn't want to go that route. Seeing how Dre and Snoop's set turned out, the only way Drake would be in a position to "headline" if he were booked alongside Weezy, Minaj, Young Money, Ross, etc. I'm not sure if I'd approve of that, but I hope it doesn't happen.

Too bad all those people suck live. I think Drake is perilously close to that "we would have booked him when he was smaller, but now he's too big and we would rather that spot go to somebody else" territory. Which is why I don't think we'll ever see him at Coachella. See also: Eminem.

After seeing them this year, I sooooo badly want Kasabian to have several radio hits so they can headline.

Because they want people to keep coming back, acts like Rage Against The Machine, Radiohead, and Paul McCartney have made people want to come back. Acts like U2, Beyonce, and Daft Punk would keep them coming back. A couple years of headliners like Phoenix, Florence and Iver COULD make people lose interest. They want to sell tickets as fast as possible. This year they will probably sell out at pre-sale due to the fact that Radiohead and Dre & Snoop were big names and put on great shows. But if next years lineup isn't up to par then 2014 pre-sale may not be the same story. Just my opinion. Take all this with a grain of salt. Most people (including myself) just go for the experience anyway.

I'm not saying that Coachella won't continue booking these huge acts and that they may get bigger or even more mainstream down the road but I see them having the "weak" but extremely popular radio headliners as well, at least at this rate, we'll see if they change it up in the next couple of years

Same. People in the UK would fucking die at the chance to see Kasabian the way we did. That was the closest I got all weekend and it was incredible! Great crowd weekend 1.

Gary Clarke Jr. seems to be doing pretty well for himself this year. I've heard him on tv a couple of times now (NFL draft and NBA playoffs) and he's definitely a talented dude. In 5 years I can see him becoming much more popular at this rate, however I'm iffy about him ever headlining... he has the talent though

Metric is booked for the 6,000 capacity Greek Theater October 9th, also the 6,000 capacity Radio City Music Hall in NYC in September. That's 6 months or so exactly before Coachella 2013, which has been a used as a radius clause of Coachella in the past.

They haven't announced a canadian tour yet, but I'm sure there's going to be a couple arenas on there.

They won't headline, but I don't know where they'd go on the poster. Shins/Feist/PJ Harvey level?

Interpol should never play Coachella again...'11s Friday night main stage set was one of the dullest acts I've ever seen in the five years I've gone to Coachella.

One of the most overrated acts of last decade, haven't put out a decent album in ten years.

I'd like to hear people's thoughts on Tame Impala. It looks like the bassist was just replaced, but with two solid albums and a recent radio jingle I think the potential is there for these guys.

a year later this doesn't look too bad. the Black Keys paved a path for him that is up to him to embrace. he definitely has the hype, another couple albums might solidify his spot if he gets creative.

I'd love to see QOTSA finally get the bump up to headliner. They're headlining several festivals in Europe this summer and they headlined at Lolla Chile/Brazil. I think they need one more "No One Knows" type hit to fully crossover here in the states though. But if any major US festival could give them a chance to headline, it'd be Coachella.

I agree that when Vampire Weekend returns, it will be as headliners. I am fine with that as their new album is fantastic.

I think Death Cab For Cutie will headline at some point. As will Foo Fighters. Perhaps M83 if they return with more monster singles.
