i don't think that's on the boards, but it might be. it wouldn't surprise me if gv purchased or leased a larger tent for the event. insomniac has proven there are bigger ones out there for events here in so-cal, and with the expansion of polo fields, they very well might be able to afford to expand the size of the sahara(doubt it though).

edit: the past few years the sahara sound/lighting has got incredibly better each year, so adding another element like expanding the size of the tent will make them re-evaluate the integrity of the sound they have developed over the years there as well.

Main Stage: 55,201 to be exact
Outdoor: 23,814 is rough
Gobi: 5,824 round there
Mojave: 8,141 give or take
Sahara: 13,420 seems reasonable

Disclosure: These are all inaccurate guesses.

Ya, your right. I'd say the Sahara holds MAYBE 20,000..., and that's including the surrounding areas outside of the tent as well.

Pop & Hiss: So will this year's Pure Filth stage be in the actual festival or just an after-party?

Sam XL: Both. They took a bunch of the stables where they normally have stables, right across from the Sahara and Gobi stages, resodded the grass and are going to let us do a stage there. Then we'll host the party in the camp grounds like last year.

no one knows where its gonna be. i'm guessing that the "new area" will be in between the sahara tent and the main festival entrance in the stable dirt lot's they supposedly sodded. my guess is as good as yours but i think it'll be an enclosed tent to capture the sound and feed it out a particular direction. the festival doesn't need another do-lab style stage that bleeds sound in every direction.

I thought the "comfortable" capacity of Mojave was around 5,000. That doesn't include those outside the tent, which could easily double. Sahara around 8k?

I'm not sure where, but I had heard that it was supposedly going between the Gobi and Mojave.

i read coachela holds almost 1 milion people ALONE

for every tent divide that number by 5. so each tent could go around 200000 maybe more if there jumping over the fences again this year.

I wrote this up last year. I think it's right.

It’s just an estimate, but I counted* people in the Mojave, Gobi, and Sahara including those attempting to enjoy the set from outside each tent and here are my observations on how this year’s crowd differed from prior years. For a typical set at the day’s peak (assuming all 5 stages are going).

I’m happy to adjust my assumptions based your observations.

Gobi – 20% more crowded
5,000 people previously, 6,000 this year (+1,000)

Mojave: 13% more crowded
7,000 people previously, 8,000 this year (+1,000)

Sahara: No increase (but most volatile crowd size throughout the day)
7,000 people previously, 7,000 this year

Coachella Stage: No increase
24,000 people previously, 24,000 this year

Outdoor Theatre: 64% increase
14,000 people previously, 23,000 this year

Loitering, Eating, DooLabbing, Drinking, Camping, etc…: 57% increase
7,000 people previously, 11,000 this year

*It's not all that hard to count, considering there is a grid on the ceiling of each tent.
