Stinkbutt, come on now, there are so many variables. Broadly speaking? No. You don't have to "romance the butt". It should be a pleasurable experience for both parties and not one's anniversary gift or something that one has to barter for through "romance". Believe it or not, there are many gay men who don't care for it and rarely engage in it.

My 10yr anniversary with my significant other is in March. I wanna do something kinda gay (gay cruise? gay resort, do the couples massage thing?). Anyone have any other suggestions?

A little about him...he HATES being the center of attention, he doesn't like celebrating stuff (holidays, birthdays, etc), he's much more of a homebody than I am (I'm always begging him to go out....then i leave his ass at home when he says no)o, he won't get married (domestically partnered, what have you) to me (mostly because of his line of work...). We do travel a lot, he loves History Channel (mostly Hitler stuff), he loves hanging out with our dogs and is currently obsessed with the A-List, Skins and Glee. He was running a lot during the summer, but that kinda fell to the wayside since just before the holidays and he's gained some weight since then, so I really wanna cheer him up.

FYI, i already tried the normal "cheer him up stuff" (lots of sex...sex with a hooker, sex with a third, etc, etc) and i've been brutally rebuffed. Thoughts?

Courtney - We are planning a bigger trip in the fall, so not looking to go too big in March (neither of us can take a week off). I was thinking more along the lines of a really nice weekend. Monetary is less of a concern than timing. I was thinking something along the lines of finding a pet-friendly hotel somewhere up the coast, somewhere close enought to go hiking with "the kids" (Bosco and Roxie...the dogs) or a walk on the beach. Maybe get a couples massage/spa treatment (maybe nix the massage since he doesn't like to be touched...), visit a mission (he loves churches...) and go out to dinner and drinks (somewhere not necessarily gay, but definitely gay friendly).

EDIT - FYI, the idea i have above is something i've done with my BF before and while we loved it, i wanna do something a little different A) It's our 10 yr anniversary and B) he's been stressed about work lately/down about his weight, so I wanna make it extra memorable.

Ok, Jorge. If I was a kind of somewhat reserved gay dude in need of serious TLC with ample pockets, I would probably spend the weekend at The Parker in Palm Springs getting relaxed with maybe a pedicure and a facial at their in-house spa.

Or, for his love of history, you could go up to the San Luis Obispo area, find a cute gay-friendly B&B and maybe spend one day doing Hearst Castle, and the other a hike and wine tasting in the Paso Robles area (I've seen folks bring dogs into quite a few of those tasting rooms).

Or, go luxury camping. Rent a cabin, safari tent or yurt at El Capitan Canyon outside of Santa Barbara, and enjoy snuggling up in front of a camp fire, making smores and whatnot. Hike the surrounding trails, or enjoy a horseback ride.

Jorge, the longest relationship I've been in lasted 8 months so I'm probably not a good resource for "big" anniversary suggestions. Does he enjoy wine? Perhaps one of those all-inclusive winery packages in Napa Valley or down in Temecula? Hotel, spa, wine tastings, great meals, horseback riding. Napa would probably be more gay friendly. I also agree that an Atlantis style cruise doesn't sound quite right for your bf; at least not the way you've described him. If he's more of a homebody and is feeling self conscious about his weight is he really going to enjoy a gay cruise? Let's face it, on those cruises if your body fat percentage is above 3% you're probably going to feel a bit out of place.

BTW, I think it's very sweet of you to think of what he'd prefer for this anniversary celebration; especially since he's been in a bit of slump. What a good bf you are. Congrats on making it to 10 years!
