Default High Sierra Music Festival '11

I didn't see a thread started on this or anything, so....here you go.

WEEN has already been confirmed as one of the headliners.

The line-up* for the 21st Annual High Sierra Music Festival, June 30 - July 3, 2011, will be released this winter. Stay tuned to our eNewletters, Facebook page, and Twitter feed for the very latest updates!

    * well, with the exception of already-announced Ween, who we hope will have the best time at our party.
This festival is quite literally about an hour away from my house, (North Reno), and last year was the first time I check it out for a day.

It's in it's 21st year, so obviously it's very well-ran and has a huge, loyal following. The camping is basically intertwined within the festival grounds, so it's definitely a very festive atmosphere. I had a surprisingly fun time.

I'm interested to see what the rest of the lineup is like. I'm always down to see Ween.

Recently there's been a nice lil' mix of afrofunk, folk, indie rock, and even a lil' electronica thrown into the jam band mix. It's definitely gotten more varied lately.

I'll probably be there again this year.

Thats not too bad. You can't go wrong with MMJ and Ween.

What kind of acts do they get for the late night shows?

And you have to pay extra for those too?

Every year I have seen the lineup, I've been more and more impressed. Compliment that with all the wonderful reviews I've heard and I'm kind of embarrassed I've never been. Usually concert funds are stretched by that time in the summer, but i may just have to make this more of a priority.

Typically they pull some of the more popular, mid-level acts as the late night shows. The cool thing, I thought, about the HSMF was that many acts end up playing 2-4 times during the weekend at various times. Beside late night shows, there are also artist "playshops" which are like impromptu jam sessions most of the time. I caught a cool Meters tribute by various funk bands during one of these "playshops". Very cool. I even saw a band do a mini-set on top of an RV, just out of the blue.

You have to buy tix for the late night shows because they're held indoors, and space is limited. It helps making them a lil' more intimate, I guess.

I just went for the 1 day last year, (for the first time), and it cost me about $60. In the end, I though it was well worth it. The festival basically ran itself, everybody took care of each other, security was NON-EXISTENT, good food and drinks, and perfect weather. Parking was also free and they provided shuttles to the front entrance. There's tons of shit to do and see, and you can basically eat and drink anywhere.

It definitely sounds like a decent July 4th option. Maybe do a couple days of the fest and a couple days in Tahoe or Reno. If the weather is nice and they fill out the line-up a little more it could be a real good time.

I don't even think they need to fill out the line up. This all sounds good to me.

It's north of Reno, so it'd be about a 9 hour drive. The best way is probably 395 to 70, which is a ridiculously beautiful and undeveloped drive. You'll see the best of California doing that path.

^395 from barstow to reno is pretty remarkable in its own right. but I might add the caveat to your statement that it is the EASTERN best of California. the coast has its own magic and Morro Bay to SF is equally as scenic. but I agree, if you are gonna make a trip from LA to High Sierra, screw I-5 or 99 and the cow shit smell for hours on end, take 395. and with the snow pack as deep as it is, strap the skis on the roof and hit Mammoth on the way!

Umm, 395 doesn't go to Barstow... And I doubt Mammoth is going to have a late June season with how warm it's been up here.

The 395 drive along the eastern side of the Sierras is breathtaking. Ansel Adams shot a lot of his stuff in the region. It's the road I take to Coachella every year and absolutely love it. Lots of great stops for hot springs too.

GB, the idea of getting a group together to tour SN and party in the mountains sounds like a good time to me.
