HEY DACS85 I've done the drive twice and it really matters when you leave. If you go on "the 5" and you get to the Los Angeles area anywhere between 4-6 pm you're going to add two hours to your trip.

I feel like it took about 7 hours from SF area to LA area and then about 1.5 hours to get into Indio Area.

When I drove down from Washington, it took about two hours more to get to Indio from San Francisco than to get to San Francisco from Seattle.

On the way back, we didn't go through L.A. and we took I-10, I-15 and highway 18 through Palmdale. We met some guys who were at the festival at a gas station near Bakersfield and they had left 2-3 hours before us and got there at the same time. I hate L.A.

I would strongly suggest leaving earlyish in the morning. Let's say 9 AM. It should take you an hour or so (probably less) to get to I-5 and you can get to LA in under 5 hours if you don't stop for food and shit. Last time I drove to school from Danville it took about 4.5 hours. I was doing about 85-90 most of the way on I-5.

Then, you have a couple of options. You're probably going to get fucked by LA either way. You can just take I-5 to the 405 to the 10 and follow that (which takes about 2 hours with minor traffic in LA) or I believe I-5 to 210 to 10, which will also take 2ish hours. Traffic is really the big factor. It's always bad by the Ontario airport.

Stay off the 405, the traffic is bad in many spots nearly any time of the night. We went through Palmdale, and it took 1/2 of the amount of time it took when we drove down through LA.

If you are coming from SF, you can always take the Bart to Oakland and a greyhound all the way to indio. I had a friend do this in years past, and it was pretty cheap.

the 5 hits the 10, no need to go anywhere near the 405.

we thought about flying but for us budget wise we are gonna drive. we are comign from sac and going to leave wed night and stay in merced where we have family. so that will cut our trip the next morning by 2 hrs. it will be around a 5 1/2-6 hr drive. we have our coachella cd;s and sirius radio so ill lsiten to stern and rock out and be just fine. but yeah flying will get u there nice and quick

Basically its a long ass drive.. So pack yuor psp, games ...sleep..It takes while plus when you hit LA...there is traffic... but that should be known already... See you all there
