Default Getting from Greyhound Bus Station to Coachella

    What is the best way?

It is only 2.8 miles, should we walk it (which could be hard with all the stuff we have) or should we find some other transport?

    Thanks mate.

How long did it take with the traffic etc.?

If it helps, we are arriving at 10:40 am. Is that peak time for people heading to Coachella?

    Cool pics!

There is a little caveat on the Greyhound ticket that says seats are first-come first-serve, does that mean they often oversell buses? Should I get there extra early to make sure I get a seat?

Sorry to ask so many annoying questions, just trying to cover all bases and make sure I am fully prepared for Coachella.

Not sure. i just happened to be at the station to pick up a package and figured a few pictures might be interesting to people considering using the bus. If you can get there early, why not? Couldn't hurt.

Greyhound sucks in this way. However, they are prepared for the massive amounts of people. Plus you can always jump in a cab if needed. Hitchhiking is always an option during since there are plenty of people going to the festival.

I have taken greyhound on a few trips and have never been denied a seat before. Do arrive early if the location is popular. This depends on where you are coming from or how early you are arriving. I took a bus that went through the major station in Phoenix. Our bus was 1/5th of the way full and I was one of three people that were going to Indio, CA. My bus arrived around noon on Thursday. There were less than 20 people at the bus station when I arrived.

Oh you caught a bus in on the Thursday. I take it traffic would be worse and taxis harder to find on a Friday?

Alright looks like I'll be getting to bus station a bit earlier than the ticket asks me to. Quite a few of the lower bands on the Friday that I don't want to miss.

I have taken greyhound a few times the walk is not that bad and chances are you will get picked up, but I was always walking alone with little backage... I would saw you should try and switch it so you get there thursday.... 1. you won't have to camp at the back 2. you will have a lot easier of a time getting to + into the festival 3. the party on thursday night is unreal!

It's about a $15 cab ride. if you arrive by bus you can split that down in by 2/3/4.

in 2009 it was a 20 minute walk from last drop off point to camping/gate. 2010 was 2 hours because nobody had a map, employees didn't know and Coachella wouldn't put the site map online. Hopefully 2011 is like 2009 in that regard.

I like the idea of changing the bus to Thursday, I think I may do that. We have left our Thursday open to rest up and buy our tents and stuff anyway, so now we'll just buy our shit and then jump on a bus.

Thursday arrival is the way to go. That way you can get in Friday as early as you need to to check out the acts you want to see. Friday arrival has too many potential obstacles to you getting to the fields, settled and then in at a resonable time.

Yeah, I would arrive Thursday. Friday is pushing it that if you are delayed-and Greyhound sometimes does have delays, then you are screwed.
Also, yes it is first come first served. I have been bumped a few times, okay when it is a 30-60min delay. The worse one was 2 hours. I wouldn't want to be bumped for getting to Indio. It is best to arrive about 60 minutes before departure.

Yeah do Thursday, even if you leave LA later on, and get to the polo fields late on the Thursday, it's better than worrying about missing any acts and stressing the fuq out.

Still working out arrangements but we are renting a car and driving from LAX either on the Thursday/Friday. Think there are only two of us so there might be room!

Oh ya, and the party last year on the thursday... unmissable.

Don't walk from the greyhound, it's hot and a long walk and I'm assuming you'll be carrying all your camping crap with you
get a cab or ask for a lift from someone nice looking

Trying to get a bus out Monday morning is tough. EVERYBODY wants out at that point, wheras the arrivals are dispersed a bit more.

yeah, they have a lot of cabs that are like minivans, making it easy to simply grab the next 4 people waiting and split amongst yourselves for a cheap ride. 3 miles is longer than you think in the dust. You might even end up sharing a cab with some cool people, make quick camping buddies etc

Thanks for the help everybody! We are not walking, we are cabbing. We are also in the process of getting ours tickets changed to Thursday, I expect Greyhound will screw us over though and we might have to book more tickets but that is fine.

One more question, perhaps more for internationals, does will call operate on the Thursday? I emailed Frontgate and they said "should be open on Thursday night" which didn't sound too convincing.

i was under the impression there was no will call this year and everyone was going to have their wristbands mailed to them 3 weeks prior to Coachella. You're going to need those wristbands to get onto the grounds.

There is will call this year, I don't think they'd be able to get away without will call considering the amount of people that come from overseas. If you email Frontgate ticketing ( hello@frontgatetickets.com ) they can change your ticket to will call and refund you the amount you paid to have them shipped. They may only be doing it for internationals though.

by the way, the Indio greyhound station is a real class act. ha. We waited for some fellow fest-goers there for 3 - 4 hours back in 07. The clock was stuck at 4:20, which you can actually still tell from ivankay's 08 photos above, lol.

They have buses lined up at 2 am monday morning. If they fill up with ticket holders back to LA they go. I was in LA by 7am or so.

BTW, the greyhoud stattion also may have some "gypsy cabs" when you arrive on thu/fri. Defininately use at your own discretion.
