People forget or just dont know Skrillex's roots. He was the lead singer for a relatively successful emo/skreamo group called From First to Last. I think this explains his poppy melodies. I don't think he's trying to be some dub-purist. He's just doing something in the same style he's always done and it happens to appeal broader demographic From First to Last probably was hated by metal-purists too. I think skrillex is genuine.

for the life of me I don't understand why Mary Anne Hobbs is going to coachella. She's a radio DJ, not a producer. Granted she plays a lot of good stuff, but she's basically a mp3 blog. Why does coachella waste a slot that could have been used for someone actually making the music that Hobbs is going to play?

i'd really like it if she followed me around all weekend and spoke directly into my ear, though.

Personally, I love the sound and feeling of filthy dubstep live because the bass feels great and it allows me to get in touch with my animal instincts.

i was at the sf show on saturday. it wasnt as bad as your friend told you, but it was hot and crowded. oversold in my opinion. with that said, i had a good time and was surprised by some of the openers

by unbearable they meant the type of crowd, not the size of it. a bunch of young agro kids. Were you one of them?

Mary Anne is a legend dude. She was the first BBC radio DJ to feature dubstep on her show, and she has been absolutely instrumental in the proliferation and progression of the sound. She may not produce, but her thumbprint on the music is indelible. She is an excellent DJ with impeccable taste. GV made an smart move booking her. She's worth 100 Skrillex's thats for fucking sure.

nobody will argue that she will be more entertaining than than skrillex.
I've been listening to her show for years. I know what she's about, you don't need to educate me on her. I've seen her play in SF. It's like a dubstep "best of" set. She is playing other people's music. By definition, it is NOT her thumbprint on any of it. This is all fine for a club in a city somewhere, but it would have been more appropriate to bring an actual producing artist out there to play something original.
