I posted this in the lineup rumors thread, but Skrilli Vanilli will be in France on April 20th according to Songkick. That means he is out... (unless he gets booked for just weekend one, but I doubt he will).
Pretty sure Paul Tollet banned him from Coachella for bringing KoRn to the dance tent. There's no way that was approved in the initial contract. If so....![]()

"Complextro" is the greatest genre name I've heard in a while.

So correct me if I am wrong, but if you are going to a show to watch a producer you are going to watch them press play and stage dive?
Producing is done in a studio. Djs play to a live crowd.
IDM is what skill claims to be. Intelligent dance moosik
You wanna fook on me?!
If they have no idea how to DJ or put together some semblance of a "live" set, then yes. This was never acceptable even 10 years ago, but more and more acts are doing it, it seems.
I remember rumors of Oakenfold giving promoters a pre-made CD to play at his events because he didn't want to DJ and he was ripped pretty badly for it. But no one ever had video of this actually happening. Now, people have video of Skrillex and Steve Angello doing nothing on stage while one track is transitioning to the next and no one seems to notice and / or give a fuck.
I think "Deathtro" would be a good name for the genre. It also makes me think of
...with a lisp.
northside groove...southside groove....eastside groove...westside groove
It seems as though a lot of young producers these days are also fairly skilled and investing in developing their skills as competent, engaging, entertaining DJs. Skrillex is not one of these. He "performs," rather than "DJs."

I have not met 1 person over the age of 26 that likes skrilly
My housemate is a high school teacher and has zero knowledge/taste of music. He keeps asking me to show him what "dubstep" is but can't stand any of the tracks I've showed him. So I put on a Scary Monsters and he was like "I know this song! All the kids went CRAZY at the Homecoming dance for this jam!"

You guys know nothing of the difficulties of mixing one complextro track into another.
So did everyone under the age of 25, seemingly. While waiting from Daedelus this year, I chatted with some LA scene guys/bloggers who were steadfastly maintaining that Daft was the best performance in Coachella history. But, naturally, they weren't even there; their first Coachella was 2009.
"Bro, the PYRAMID, bro. So sick."
Its simple math:
A+B=X
A- How bad the music is
B- How popular you are
X- Level of Hate
Example: 100% of the music is crap + The fact he is nominated for an award = FFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
If you have any trouble try this first:
P-O=Y
P-Percentage Of Popularity
O- Percent Of That Popularity Based Off %100 Of Just The Music & Not Image
Y- How Cool You Really Are
Example: 80% Popularity - negative 100% = Negative 20%
It's a shame that the fucking pyramid overshadowed what was actually a fantastic piece of live performance (regardless of how much real-time button pressing/knob twisting was actually being done).
To this day I think Fatboy Slim was playing a pre-mixed CD at Coachella in 2008, he was sitting 10 feet from the turntables during some transitions.
I was watching the Coachellla video the other day, and well, you had to be there, its just not the same watching that at all.
Somehow those shows are wired in my brain for ever, one of my faves for the car cd player.
I still get chills from the Vegoose set's peak for Harder Better Faster Strong/Around The World

Well that's "live" electronic music in a nutshell, isn't it? Unless you're onstage watching the artist mix (or not mix) there really isn't anything that tangible to look at. Other than the lights, of course - which is what everyone remembers. Add that to the fact that a significant portion of the audience is fucked out their minds on ecstasy and you start feeling lucky that Guy and Thomas even bothered to show up for their own performance (which has also been questioned.)
They are ALL guilty of it. That's why it's called electronic. The electronic acts I give the most props to are those that actually use live instruments like Trentmoller and even Infected Mushroom.
I don't agree that unless you're watching their hands, all you have left to remember is the lights. It's only shit music that requires lights to be memorable.
Some of the best music I've ever experienced was in dark smokey rooms where I'd have a hard time even remembering which direction the DJ was at.
