So my niece (age 15) knows nothing about EDM and sure as hell, I asked her who she likes/listens to and she mentioned "Skrillex".
It reminded me of the moment I told my uncle (after he asked what type of heavy metal I like) and I said "Slaughter".. I will never forget that look on his pale face.

2013 EDM wishlish (please):
classixx, stanton warriors, logistics, jefr tale
spencer & hill, bent, eric prydz, mike realm, nick thayer
kruder & dorfmeister, young punx, phonat, treasure fingers
Kraak & Smaak, sergio & benoit, kris menace, bassjackers, DJ Craze
DIGITALISM, knifeparty, chemical brothers, bassbintwins, seth troxler
Skrillex is the king of my guilty pleasures. I really hate him and his music, but I still always end up going to his shows at festivals. I always convince myself to go just to watch people try to dance ridiculously to his ridiculous music. And that is usually pretty fun, but then I also usually get pretty drunk and then I end up just trying to dance as ridiculously as I can and it ends up being a lot of fun. I've always been ashamed of this, but today I'll come out and admit it.
I enjoy dancing to Skrillex.
But I hate Skrillex.

SPIN Magazine - losing credibility since 1994
EDIT:
If you don't believe so, listen to their AWFUL album of covers for the "anniversary" of Nirvana's Nevermind. I've never deleted free music so fast in my life.
^ I did the same. It was terrible. Welcome back to the re-birth of the Limp Disket Generation of shitty music taking over the airwaves and media. Just when I was starting to have faith in music again.
Please check out my blog Sleeping is Giving In for some great mixes and other good things!
Ohhhhh godddd im sooo jaded. Music USED to be good. Now its just poser kids playing crap music. It will never be the same ohhh godddd im going to the coffee shop to loathe over my macchiato.

Big Boi/Killer Mike - 5/20 - Rialto Theatre
The Black Angels - 5/22 - Hotel Congress
Devo - 5/24 - Rialto Theatre
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - 5/30 - Rialto Theatre
Justice was huge with the tastemakers in 2007 and 2008, but I'm not sure that they significantly broke through to the mainstream; Skrillex is fucking everywhere right now, but is getting trashed by the tastemakers.
SPIN is the Skrillex of music publications.

This is all you need to know about SPIN:

I recommend reading some of their other "debunked" myths too. It's really pathetic writing.
I'm just glad we've finally taken the last bits of soul and groove and bump out of electronic dance music. Every time I hear Moodymann, I think "This would be better if it sounded more like Slipknot."
"Are RAVES the future of the modern music festival?
Consider these numbers: The total of 230,000 attendees this year at Electric Daisy Carnival surpassed Coachella, which sold 75,000 three-day passes (a reported drop from 2010's take)."
Article is retarded, probably more that the original SPIN article even.

I'm wondering why the colored nails. Shit looks like a Disney magazine cover.
These DJ rankings are like the AVN Awards, it seems like everybody gets some kind of nod.
As for the future of music, going to a huge event like EDC. You start to get weary when you realize 9 out of the 10 acts you saw remixed "Hello".
#1 DJ? No waiz. That's DJ Pauly D. Yeahhhhhhhh buddyyyyyyyyyyy.
I like how people commenting on that article are obsessed with his short pudgy fingers.
northside groove...southside groove....eastside groove...westside groove
what I'll never understand is how Armin van Buuren, Tiësto and Guetta somehow always make up the top 3 spots on dj mag top 100.

It seems more like a rank of djs with greatest financial success.
I was thinking about whether the seizure inducing music by skrillex (or just dubstep in general) being very popular with kids is because it keeps the ADD mind so busy. The new generation is so used to multitasking at all times and the infinite series of drops and electronic loops seems to compliment that mindset very well.
There is so much shit going on in every song that kids dont need to 'fast forward' to 0:45 to hear a chorus to decide if they like the track.
Its science.
