It's happening this year. I was quite annoyed when Coachella moved 2 weeks earlier and clashed with Record Store Day. There are a ton of great free instores in London that weekend.

This year I'm sitting out the fest, so I'll be taking advantage of all the free sets (probably camped out in Rough Trade East for the day) and picking up some cool records.

^nice! I am all for supporting local record shops

It reads that you're in the UK, have you been to the "hard to find records" store. Ive ordered quite a few goodies/old records from them and have always wanted to check out the place.

That place is up in Birmingham. People only tend to go there if they are forced to (IE work). Will check it out if I ever have the misfortune of being up that way.

Man, I had the best day at RSD last year. I fucking HATE how it conflicts with Coachella. Maybe they'll do the "holds" thing again?

...on that note, will there be ins and outs? On that day, I may be inclined to get there super early, buy records, take a cab back to my hotel and return to the grounds.

Shipping was not expensive at all last year. You could pay for it at the register, then walk over to the shipping counter to complete the paperwork. I felt really sad handing over my fresh finds, but it was really cool to have my coachella gift pack arrive the day after we arrived home. Then spend time around the turntable reminiscing about the weekend and realizing how little I like my non-coachella friends.
Wow, 12 step meetings at Coachella, who knew? SOBERCHELLA.COM

One good thing about RSD in indio is that the festival store is usually fully stock on all the exclusives that got shorted at nearly every other store in the country.

Yes, totally... it is the perfect piece of positive mojo to balance out the post-Coachella blahs that come with arriving back home.

To celebrate and support Record Store Day 2011, the newly re-launched and Karakos-powered Celluloid Records presents a limited repress of the classic "Doriella Du Fontaine". The project began in late 1969 with famed producer Alan Douglas recording the unmistakable Jimi Hendrix and legendary Buddy Miles in rolling and groove-laden musical backdrop. Fast forward 4 years and Lightnin' Rod (aka Jalaluddin Mansur Nuriddin) adds in his distinctive vocal soundtrack. Rod calls it "spoagraphics" (spoken pictures) but to most listeners hear it as the roots of an early form of rap. Rhythm, spoken-word and the art of the storyteller all wrapped up into one. The two meld together to create something new and unheard in 1973 and something still sounding fresh in 2011.

    Boris - Attention Please - LP/CD/digital
Boris are widely known for their ability to breach styles and stretch sonic boundaries of all that is heavy, psychedelic, droning and downright cathartic. But, Attention Please is more like a complete redefining of their potential in several ways. First and foremost, it is the first album on which all vocals are sung by lead guitarist, Wata. While she has previously sung on a couple of songs for singles and her solo outings, the entire 10-song album features her intimate, multifaceted vocal style. Secondly, the songs on Attention Please have a sultry, intoxicating catchiness to them. It's melodic without sounding pop. It's psychedelic without sounding dated. It's heavy without relying on barre chord riffs.

Vinyl LP Release Date: April 16th, 2011
LP edition is in special gatefold packaging and includes one of 3 limited edition posters.

Records at Zia are especially expensive. Last year most of the 7" singles were around $8, $12 for 12" singles. Albums are extremely YMMV.

The new Radiohead album will be flying off the shelves. It's $48 on their website so it'll be marked up to like $60 I bet.

Last year the SF Amoeba had a Charlotte Gainsbourg signing and a Jonsi in-store and Hollywood had a Slash signing and a pre-order an album and get a wristband for a Smashing Pumpkins gig down the street deal. Wonder what will go down this year.
