At a certain point, don't you run out of these types of bands/artists? Not to mention those that have been asked and turned offers down.

What makes the acts some of you are listing more "interesting" than the ones currently on the line-up? This all seems to boil down to personal taste. Nothing more.

I think I'll stop arguing this because it sounds like I hate the lineup and it's unimportant. I'm really just slightly underwhelmed and trying to verbalize why exactly it is, not really trying to prove a point. And I'm fucking bored. God. I spent two days in this goddamned thread.

is it just me, or do festivals seem a lot more common nowadays than when coachella first started. this seems like a hard thing to avoid, based on the prior post that coachella can only book who is available. not to mention how easy it is to hear about festivals. back in the day, you had to be lucky enough to be at a venue that received a flyer for the show or had friends in the know. now it's an advertisement on your facebook.

Yeah, it's kind of unrealistic to expect these bands to just play Coachella and not any other festivals.

Hey if Coachella didn't want to inspire other American festivals which makes it more difficult for Coachella to book a special/unique lineup then they would've started making poor booking choices a long time ago. They didn't and now they're paying for it.

Maybe Coachella is lazy and unimaginative now so it can look imaginative later when other festivals keep following these lazy and unimaginative booking trends that Coachella is setting. Thus, taking control of American festivals once and for all.

It might just be crazy enough to work.

In the future, the line-up will have 90% bands that we have never heard about (except for Jared, who would have heard of about a third of the line-up). We will research the line-up, but only succeed in finding material by a bit less than half.

    Also, David Bowie will headline.

I like to ascribe to this theory because I'm sort of an optimist. It was the first year for the 2 weekend thing. They've proved that it will sell out no matter what in years to come. Hopefully they'll fire the asshat who did the Sahara bookings this year and curate a stronger EDM lineup in 2013, along with more 'risky' or 'imaginative' bands. LET ME DREAM.

This all comes full-circle back to Coachella booking The Vines. That's a risk they need to take.

Actually I can get behind the idea of a different band a day curate the Mojave or Gobi tent.

David Byrne curating a day of African music at Bonnaroo '09 was pretty awesome. Or at least I assume it was because it was the same fucking day as EVERY OTHER BAND I WANTED TO SEE.
