I've seen Miss Badu twice now and she just doesn't do it for me and for the record she was late by 20-30 minutes both times. I'm in the minority on this one but I could care less if an artist starts on time usually. As long as they are on when they hit the stage i'm happy. I prefer Lauryn's voice and lyrics to Erykah.

I loved reading about how in 2003 when performing at the Vatican she called them out. Why is it only strong women are able to do this and are often dismissed as crazy or in this case they say she acted in poor taste. How dare they judge her after the atrocities that were committed under their watchful eye..

anyway, I hope she is focused and can pull off something special at Coachella.
    ^^my point exactly.

I just saw her play this past Saturday here in Portland. It was awesome. She played a great set; pretty much most every song I wanted to hear her preform. Her voice is still spectacular and she can still flow like crazy.

Also, she wasn't late or anything like that. Played for a while too, about an hour and a half. It was very satisfying.

    THAT IS FUCKING FANTASTIC!

I'm confident she has her shit together for this performance. I just hope she doesn't conflict with the Chemical Brothers or some other must see shit but she's pretty high on my list. Notice the press doesn't report on her great performances, they focus on the controversy of course.

this is one act i'm definitely not going to be upset if i miss. if i catch her, i catch her..but she was recently here in philly and absolutely bombed. it was at a great smaller venue too, which i thought would have been a great place to see her but she was pretty awful. stunned a lot of people. hoping she's got her shit together but not counting on it.

Great review from Tampa/ybor a couple weeks ago.

    http://blogs.creativeloafing.com/dai...t-her-rebirth/

    Setlist:
    01. (Unknown)
    02. Everything Is Everything
    03. Sweetest Thing
    04. Lost Ones
    05. When It Hurts So Bad
    06. Superstar
    07. To Zion
    08. Ex-Factor
    09. Get Up, Stand Up/Is This Love (Bob Marley)
    10. How Many Mics (The Fugees)
    11. I Only Have Eyes For You (The Flamingos)
    12. Zealots (The Fugees)
    13. Fu-Gee-La (The Fugees)
    14. Ready Or Not (The Fugees)
    15. Killing Me Softly (Frankie Valli)
    —————————————————–
    16. Turn Your Lights Down Low
    17. Doo Wop (That Thing)

Known for hitting the stage late, sometimes well past midnight, Hill bucked the trend and was poised behind the mic by 11:30 p.m. Sure, she spent a few minutes sound-checking; hell, she even “complained” about the lighting a few times. But what her fans ultimately witnessed once she got started was an artist finding her footing once again.

Yeah her set was amazing and I had no intentions of seeing her going into the weekend. We were watching her as we left the beer gardens and decided to stop and relax for a few minutes. A few minutes turned into the rest of her set. We couldn't leave.
10/8 - Little Dragon @ Marquee (Tempe, AZ)
10/11 - Carolina Chocolate Drops @ Rialto Theater (Tucson, AZ)
11/10 - The Black Keys @ US Airways Center (Phoenix, AZ)

Wait, were we watching the same thing? Because here's what I saw:

    1-about 25 minutes late in a 50 minute slot
2-band played some random mixes without her (Aerosmith?)
3-Lauren Hill comes out and complains that her mic isn't loud enough and repeatedly asks for them to turn it up
4-Lauren Hill acts surprised that turning it up turning it up turning it up resulted in feedback, won't sing until they fix it
5-20 to 30 minutes of good singing

Despite all that, her voice sounded amazing. I'm still glad I got to see her do some of the songs I loved in high school. But one of the best acts of the weekend? Absolutely not.

Closer to 15 and it had more to do with Cee Lo running late and his clusterfuck of a set.

2-band played some random mixes without her (Aerosmith?)
It's called making an entrance, it's fairly common, everyone from Prince to Erykah Badu does this.

3-Lauren Hill comes out and complains that her mic isn't loud enough and repeatedly asks for them to turn it up
An artist asking to have her mic turned up doesn't ruin a set for me.

4-Lauren Hill acts surprised that turning it up turning it up turning it up resulted in feedback, won't sing until they fix it
Which took a grand total of what? 20 seconds?

Biggest surprise of the weekend, she was lucid, in good spirits, and was spitting rhymes like it was '98.

On the webcast, it sounds like she's pretty hoarse. Still seems like a good set though.

THat is a really hard one. I have to say it was a tie. Erykah had sound issues, well a lot of feedback, but she never once let it affect her.

She did sound hoarse but it was a good energetic performance.

Nice that Sunset hit around the time she went into "Ex-Factor."

I like Erika Badu's style of singing. She sort sound like Billie Holiday but with soul.

Sad. Revisit Badu's material. Much better voice than Lauryn, especially now that Lauryn's voice is shotty as hell.

thank you. people kept saying she "sounded great" and i had to wonder which set they were watching.

i enjoyed the set, but her voice definitely wasn't up to par. but she did better than i feared, not quite as good as i'd hoped.

and i hate that remix of lost ones. the original beat is soooooooooo much better. why ruin a perfectly danceable song?

my favourite part was when she did a few bars of "i'll fly away" though; that was great
