Two years in a row? Don't understand this "band". Don't understand this decision. Don't understand placement on line-up. Why?
Stop hatin. Sleigh Bells rawk.
Their album was pretty good, never seen them live though but I guess that their last year set was a disaster.
04/12: Jamie XX, Four Tet, AESOP Rock, Local Natives, Grinderman, Lou Reed, Blur, Stone Roses
04/13: Trash Talk, Theophilus London, Portugal. the Man, The Postal Service
04/14: Unicorn Kid, DIIV, Smith Westerns, Disclosure, Rodriguez, The Faint, James Blake, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
they were good in 2010, but I think it was before they really hit the big time and had sorted their stage show out. none the less, she will rawk that stage
I saw them last year at Pitchfork... technical problems made it slightly embarrassing. Their set can only possibly be around 35 minutes due to lack of songs, (they ran out at Pitch) and their album was okay until you heard it too many times, so how are they billed so high?
In all honesty, I've never been in a crowd that was so retarded-crazy as the Pitchfork Sleigh Bells set. I felt like I was getting waterboarded while being repeatedly kicked in the balls. This is coming from a guy whose seen Slayer, KMFDM, NIN, Ministry and a hundred death/thrash/metalcore bands and found them tame in comparison.
Oh well, at least it should draw the crowd away from some of the other acts I want to see. If you haven't seen them at least once, it's worth it just to check out, even if you don't like Treats.
I'd personally rather see a reunited Head Wound City or an ironic set from The Locust.
Saw them open for Yeasayer and then saw them yet again when they opened for Hot Chip and:
06/25 Hot Chip, Tycho, Blackbird Blackbird and Social Studies
07/05 Jim Jeffries
07/26 The Postal Service and Max Cooper
8/9-11 Outside Lands and Glass Candy
09/18 The Orb
09/24 Wax Tailor
10/25-27 Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit
11/01 Iron & Wine
I don't blame you; the backtrack was cheesy and production left a lot to be desired. I mean, the only real instrument being played is a single guitar...
They could probably just put on their CD minus vocals and no one would know the difference.
I'm stoked to check them out. I love the album
They were absolutely the worst set I checked out last year. One of the most painful experiences of my life. It was fucking terrible and rivaled only by the Crystal Castles train wreck of 2009.
If we're lucky something will happen. Some adversity will happen and something unexpected will happen and you'll get tired and you'll get hungry, you'll have trouble going to the bathroom, and you'll lose your car keys, and all these wonderful things will add up to some powerful experience that 10 years from now we'll say "We lived, we lived." - Wayne Coyne on Coachella
The most annoying part of their add -- and the only part that has absolutely nothing to do with my inherent dislike of this band for its own sake -- is that it will probably fuel all of the offseason "bring back x, y, or z act who just fucking played the previous festival" threads.
I loved their set last year, love their album and am totally looking forward to seeing them perform again this year...the only thing I am extremely confused about is how they are billed higher then Gogol Bordello?! Is it because they are on separate days or something like that?
4/27 Crystal Castles
6/21 EDC (Vegas)
10/6 Depeche Mode
Checked their set last year. It wasn't bad. For the time slot that they got and no conflicts, why not watch them. That might not be the case this year with them getting a set time close to sundown rather than sunrise.
Who exactly -- on Friday -- should be billed higher than them? They're a major buzz band, their shows clearly sell well, and their debut was the 9th most acclaimed album of last year (according to the Village Voice Pazz & Jop poll).
I love about half of the album, though it can be too loud and abrasive for me to make it all the way through. But when I passed by their tent last year, I got sucked in big time. I couldn't see anything, but they sounded pretty damn good from where I was, at least for the couple songs I stayed for.
don't get me wrong, I like Sleigh Bells, I saw their set last year, and I'll see them again this year. I was just shocked that they were billed that high. Yeah, I know, their songs are in a grip of car commercials... but still. Just sayin.
saw their set last year and three other times most recently in october. aside from having more songs to play, their live show isnt any better. I was very surprised they are playing back-to-back and are billed so high. I wish it were the XX or Beach House playing in their place.
They'd be better with a full band, but I enjoyed them when they opened for LCD Soundsystem....
